Went to bed a little early last night but I still had a thick, red hot bed of coals in the ol smoke dragon. So I opened the air up to burn em down and crawled into bed "just for a few minutes" . Woke up this morning to a cold freakin house! First time I've done that this season lol. Thankfully mrs piney said "its not too cold"
You are not alone.....I didn't know it was going down to 14 last night and I didn't put enough wood in last night, 66 in the house this am
Seldom have that happen because filling the stove goes with taking the dogs out for their "duty" before going to bed. You don't forget to do that because you know what the consequence will be.
Nice thing about heat storage is that the house stays at the same temperature and there is hot water whether the boiler is running or not. I'm glad Mrs. Piney didn't think it was "too cold".
I should clarify......I've not gone to bed w/o reloading, but I have gone to bed after relying on a forecast that ended up being wrong and loading less than I should have. I've got the timing down pretty good so that I get the overnight load going at least a few minutes before bed. Then, set it and forget it until I get up. Three-four years ago, I was still getting up at 3-4 in the morning for a reload.
Ditto, 10-15 minutes - load the stove and open up the air - collar up the hounds and let them out - go do my back stretches in front of the stove and turn the air down - go call the hounds in - go adjust the air
What? Is this some kind of riddle? Don't load the stove at night, gets cooler in the house, more wood in the wood pile and therefore more logs to throw on the fire.. Don't let the dogs out......... Oh.. I get it.. Either way, you have more logs to throw on the fire.. Make sure you let those other ones season at least 3 years!!!
