Barter. I'm a big believer in barter. One nice load of black locust should make us even.

If you don't mind me asking, what causes your toes to cramp up, kinda like lock up?

I'm probably one of the few who've actually burned Lodgepole pine east of the Mississippi. I have a time lapse video of a nice load of Lodgepole in the Beta Ideal Steel last year floating around somewhere on the interwebs.

    Old age?

Sometimes its electrolytes off balance, like low calcium. But really we're just guessing. Now they think it's just the nerves that supply the muscles wearing out but there's no definite answer.

No, it's due to high uric acid, either from diet, meds, your body producing too much uric acid or the kidneys not getting rid of enough of it.

Be careful. Years ago I had a guy in his twenties come in and one of his middle toes wouldn't curl down. He had been swimming and got a cramp in his arch and all his toes cramped and curled down so he grabbed them and forcefully stretched them out. He pulled hard enough he ruptured one of the flexor tendons in his arch. No real treatment for that.

oh no I wouldn't do anything like that, it's like a muscle cramp I guess, I just work it out slowly and if that don't work very warm water will

    Thanks Brian .
if it tastes good , don't eat it is what my Doc said , lol , i can do without all the above , but i am particularly fond of Lebanon Bologna , lol, Salmon is a flare up kicker for me especially the fresh farm raised , i have not noticed anything with the wild canned variety of salmon ,it doesn't seem to produce a flare up , i very rarely hear mention of salmon thought , i guess everybody's chemistry is different ? stress also seems to be a big factor to mine , no matter what i eat it seems , stress will flare it up every time , i am under the care of a doctor , i do have high blood pressure and some heart problems ,

when i feel a flare up coming on , i usually do a can of cherries in juice and take some ibuprofen's , followed up by lemon juice in water a couple of times a day , i put a tea spoon of baking soda to a gallon of water as well and drink on that through the day , i was told this makes the water more alkaline ? i don't know but it seems to work,
i also do a few shots of apple cider vinegar and looking into other things like alfalfa and celery seed , if that doesn't clear it up in a few days i resort to the doctor ,

the last flare up was from fiesta fajitas from the local Mexican cafe , and i am still paying for that one LOL !

it was probably colchicine he gave you , the stuff works great , i think it comes from the krokus plant and you are not supposed to be in the sun when taking it ,

i am glad to hear you are still gout free , its some crazy, brutally painful crap . :beerbbq:

My flare ups have been pretty random, no association to meats, shellfish, etc. I have known some who would suffer every Thanksgiving, but said the Turkey was always worth it. HCTZ definitely increased my uric acid levels, but I am lucky enough to only have to take the colchicine about once every 4-5 months.

i don't like turkey that well , LOL , i could do without it altogether if stopped the flare ups ,

it seems to run in my family , my dad and grandpa both had it , my dad didn't get his till later in life , his late 60's but his dad , my pawpaw had gout in his 20's , i remember seeing pawpaw crawl out to the car with both his knees swelled the size of cantaloupes and take himself to the local Doc, i don't really know what the treatment was for it back then , but i was told they drained it off his knees with a big needle and then shot it full of cortisone or something , but he would come home crawl back in the house and the next day he would get up and go to work, pawpaw was a tough man for sure , and to think about it , i feel bad that i have laid in bed and cried over one measly little toe, LOL
