I've not had that problem with oak, but then I wear gloves. The only major problem I have with oak is I'm not able to get enough of it! :D

If you wear gloves you won’t have that problem.

I dislike the three years drying time. About the splinters - Black Locust might give Oak a run for its money, esp when dry!

It only takes 3 years if you work against nature and put it out of the sun and wind. This will all be sold and burned next heating season.

Whts funny, i was literally reading through and going to respond the exact opposite. I get lots of both... and reds stain my hands bad, whites never do!

Well, from the problem you are having I’d say you certainly need them. What’s your big issue with gloves? Just get over it and put some on. That’s why they were invented. Do you chop wood barefoot and naked?

Have had severe dermatitis on my hands before. It is not fun. Starts as small blisters, then festers a bit and turns into gaping cracks. Washing hands in plain water feels like fire. Topical steroids only thing that will beat it back. I now wear gloves for nearly all my chores. No more dermatitis. My life is better since I went "full gloves". :)

I work at a hardwood sawmill, and the red oak is notorious for the tannin staining...all ours is green and will react with the metal racks we put it in within an hour or so...you can even see the saw marks in some pieces...
