Last night our oil furnace failed again for the third time in as many months. Propane fireplace and electric space heaters got us through a moderately cold night for us, about 15°F. Furnace is now fixed but wife is more empathetic to adding a wood stove. Looks like we'll have one before next heating season!!!! Top contenders are Hearthstone Castleton vs. Blaze King Ashford 20,1. Sorry, I can't sell her on a Woodstock.
Sorry you had furnace problems. Glad you got it fixed. Remember this is a great time to get your wood for next year. Split and stacked outside on pallets in the spring. Ash and Maple will be good next winter.
I've got some ash and maple and cherry in the works... Whole bunch of oak in the long term queue too. Lookin' forward to it.
Gas & Fox are right on. New woodstove all installed and ready to go = good ... more than enough seasoned firewood for next winter = priceless.
Sorry for the furnace problems, but your on the right track. Woodstoves and the chimneys can be an expense, but the savings are astronomical. We used to fill our oil tank twice a year at least! We've put a half a tank in over the last 3 years and have saved around $ 6000 bucks. So, the stove will pay for itself, get the right size and it will keep your house toastier than ever, but yes, start gathering your wood now and css. (Cut split stack) Even if you decide to purchase your wood, it's best to buy a year + in advance.
nice choices on the stove models, both are excellent units! the "gang" is right , start now on the wood, do some reading in the "firewood neighborhood"section of the forum, remember "measure twice, cut once" on the installation.
