In this mild weather I have been using the hammers and have noticed that compared to the softies I get a clinker as well as a bit of carbon on the burn pot.

Before experimenting with upping the air to the chamber I thought I would ask if hardwoods generally require a more combustion air than softwoods in a pellet stove. I am thinking that the carbon and clinker is from not introducing enough combustion air.

Stove is clean, vent is clean, gaskets are all good and when burning Lacrete or Platinum the clinker, carbon is not apparent. That leads me to believe the "issue" (and it is not a big one) is one of combustion, hence air.

    OR

    Am I missing something else??

Generally for me, when burning Hardwoods, more air is required than with softies. Even less air with blends.

Although 1 bag of pellets is hardly enough for a real test --

A 6% increase from 85 to 90 volts at the combustion motor has visually ended the issue. Going to let it play out through Saturday.

Sounds like you got it sorted out OST, cool.

Dunno what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but if you can save the Softies, that's a beautiful thing.. It's early/mid Spring weather here this week.

Was 50 here today -- Been like spring. Linda's tulips have popped through in one of the beds, or maybe they are daffodils. I just get to dig.

This has been one of the warmest winters in my recollection (and that goes back more than I care to admit).

The caking was bothering me - BUT - I believe it was an air issue because the stove has almost continually been on the lowest setting. Just had to think it through. Still learning pellets after decades of wood.
