Probably some 4 yrs old but not much most 2 and a half to 3...Next year be a little over 3 years... and unfortunatley not red oak...
Might have been many moons but I brought a few splits with me to my daughter's fire pit this summer and the darned stuff was bubbling and oozing out the ends.
Seven year old red oak that I laughingly joked never touched a drop of rain. Bone dry with no sapwood rot. Beautiful wood, would be nice if we could store all our wood in a woodshed )
I continue to burn larch that has been standing dead for who knows how long. I also have trees picked out for next season that are of the same age. I remember a few years ago getting a cord and a half of lodgepole pine that was stored in a garage for about 6 years so if youre asking about wood bucked up Id say 6. It was nasty dry stuff that off gassed way to quickly. I would love to get into some old 100 year old buildings that have some old fir post and beams.
That's funny. How could I forget (they won't allow it) that last spring at our gtg, we had a couple of oak splits burning in the fire pit and they sizzled. That really got their attention!
