My work boots show me something each time I look at them....I can see where I cut through and hit the safety toe with my saw. Reminds me to be safe as I got lucky.

When I take them off I see the melted tread underneath...tells me not to put them so close to a fire made by Eric VW

Its the story behind them that makes them so stinky too:whistle: every scratch and nick tells a tale. I cut my pull tab off earlier this year with an exploding grinder disk. :picard:

Before retiring my company gave us a $125 annual boot allowance. I still have my last boot purchase and wear them all the time when working wood. Looking at the boots brings back many memories.
Amazing how you can get attached to a pair of boots.
I probably need to take better care of them, but they are still in great condition not being in the harsh environment.

Well, these are my winter work boots. Not bad but the real reason for posting is to show a great way to dry them. It seems no matter what, most of us end up sweating some time during the day and our feet sweat too. So, at night I just slip one of these rocks into my boots and leave them overnight. Bingo! Dry boots are warmer than damp boots.

During the day we just lay these rocks on top of the wood stove and they heat up nicely to give heat inside the boots at night. This can work very well for gloves and mittens too. We do have some smaller ones for that though.

If anyone is interested, we get these at Woodstock Soapstone: Soapsto... They only have one size listed but I think if you ask they still have both sizes available.

I will say these work better than the electric dryers and are cheaper as they use no electricity.

There is nothing better than a pair of worn out broken in boots.

I still have my first of “real” (high quality) boots - a pair of American made Chippewa loggers-about 12 years old. The soles are about worn out and the insides are falling apart but outer leather is in decent shape. I found a place online that will re-sole and redo the interiors buts it’s not cheap - worth it on a pair of favorite boots or just put the money towards new ones?

    Anyone have experience doing that?

I just threw out a 12 year old pair of Chippewa loggers last year. They were stil practically brand new. I kept them for winter use, but now that I'm older and fatter, my feet just can't do the loggers any more.

I have had a place in Owosso MI resole my boots before it’s usually cheaper to go that route. It’s a good cobbler shop and they are very friendly...

I’ll bet you have one near you too. They are not common anymore but cobblers are still around!

Use enough of them and you just may gain back some degree of waterproofing!

My work"boots"... seriously... I waterproof em 2x when new... then, I wear em in any conditions... rain, snow, mud, etc. I basically destroyed my achilles wearing leather work boots for many years in the sign biz. Now have to use inserts, etc. I try to wear a pair of flexible hiking boots I found, when I snow shoe or have to be in deep snow. But, I don't last long before the achilles go nuts again... :picard:

Bought a pair of Rocky's when we moved up here, and I still have 'em. That was 11 years ago, and they've been through a lot.
One or more of the dogs used 'em as a chew toy at some point.
Other than that, they're still in pretty good shape, but I don't wear 'em too much anymore. They're too heavy for my liking. I've worn running shoes for so long, I should have bought stock in NB.

One of my jobs at work is customizing boots as well as resole/repair. As well as a cobbler shop, might find an orthotic and prosthetic shop and make friends with a tech. I have resoled my boots at work about 5 times. At ourshop we dothe oddball stuff. Ill have to post afew pics of the 10E width boot we did!
