Great way to spend 6 hours while on vacation. Old school grading our 1.5 mile cottage road. I remember as a kid many years ago riding that back plank and having to jump off to pick stones. Me driving the old Massey 22 and my older brother get the arm work out on the grader.
Neat - I have never seen that done before. I guess way back in the days it would have been towed by horses.
Oops, the crown looks a bit low there in the second picture. I think you need to go back and do it again.
Great pics! You're very lucky to have that thin a material to work with. In Maine, we "grow" a basketball size rock every 2 feet. Your equipment is perfect. Lot of fun remembering the days as a kid...
My family has been working this road like this since the 60's and trust me, there is no shortage of rock and most of it bedrock that we have to build up around and over. We're still pull up a few basketball sized stones a year too. It's easier these days as my other brother (not in the photo) drives a slinger truck for an excavating company and he brings in a couple loads of material a year. A couple of slinger truck loads of material is what your cottage road at loon lake needs Terry Also what you don't see in the photos is my cousin on his LA504 Kubota with a bucket and box blade moving material, filling potholes and digging stones. We have it pretty well groomed now.
Yep... I thought that road looked as tho you didn't start working on it just that morning... Takes a lot to keep a 1000' of road in good shape like that... and you're working 1.5 miles. Looks great!
Those can do a pretty decent job. We used to have one many moons ago. Finally went to the junk yard. In between grading, you might try cutting a small tree and then dragging the top behind that tractor and over the road. Two or 3 passes really can work nice for some quick leveling but annually, a grading is nice because then you can put a crown in the center.
Never thought of the tree top drag. We used to sometimes drag an old coil bed spring with a couple of cinder blocks on top to do a little post grade leveling/smoothing, but we haven't done that for some time now.
We've done the old bed springs drag too but I like the tree tops better. Best is using pine or cedar!
