Started working on a large red oak that fell during a storm last summer. Hard to handle, but adds up quickly.
Lots and lots of square splits A packaroon and pulp hooks will help your back and hands tremendously if you don’t have them now. I’m guessing you don’t because there aren’t any in the pictures. A pickaroon makes it real easy to stand up one of those rounds and roll it along. To stand one up you stick the pickaroon into the edge on the far side and pull with all your weight. No bending over. No reaching. No stress on your fingers and hands. Same for moving the halves and quarters around once you break them up on the splitter. One wack and pull. No bending. Pulp hooks are similar but with a shorter swing radius.

This red oak blew over last fall. I knew it was hollow but usually there is a lot of good wood once you get up 10-12' off the ground. The trunk ended up being rotten all the way up. only got 2 ricks out of the tops. Bad day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
