Walstib! I'm not familiar with a "barley crank", is that used in beer making? This has taken quite some time, I hope you finally get it sorted.
Bought this old 3/4 military Dodge for the combat rims. Stuck motor, no brakes, broken winch and beat hard. It was used as a woods truck to drag logs before I got it. Started piddling with it and got it to run. Kept the overhead gas tank for a conversation piece but it does work!~ LOL Beat the dents our and put some better seats in it. Good enough to beat around in and I have a spare motor now when I do a resto on my 1/2 ton WC. These above are how it was when I got it. Quick body work with a sledge hammer. Good enough to haul some loads out from here at the farm.
Pretty truck. I'm a square body guy, but I like them no matter brand as long as there square.!! From your name, I'm guessing your a Forester also? Forgive me if I'm missing anyone but I think your the only other Forester I have run across on here? Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
For those who have not seen recent pics of my old "Brown truck" I will post some here. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
I went to Penn State Mont Alto for Forestry, worked on a USFS hotshot crew for 3 years, and then ended up as a Land Manager for the state. Not the traditional forestry jobs I once envisioned, but am happy with the journey I’ve been blessed with. I love my job...& my trucks!
I'm sure you can tell from my name where I went Go Tigers! I work in the public sector in Timber sales. PM me if you want to know more. I am more secretive than some, there some weird people on the internet, and you never know who lurks and reads and what their intentions are. I am easy enough to find for someone determined but I don't want to say who I work for here cause there are not many of us and one of me in the state. That is a cool Ford. One of my best buddies in college had the same body style, early 90s, it was crew cab long bed sitting on 35s. Took a football field to turn around.
I guess my 89 makes the 30 year cut off now. The mighty 1/2 ton has hauled hundreds of cords over the years and keeps going. getting close to 300,000 miles on her now.
It does sit level when it's not on the stops like that. Squat is not for looks like kids are doing now. LOL It does have the 350 in it. Both heads have been replaced at different times due to cracks. First time I did it I went ahead and pulled the motor out to replace the rear main seal and figured it would be a good time to replace the oil pump. When I pulled the pan off bottom end was as clean as a pin. ONE paper towel cleaned the pan. says a lot about REALLY changing oil every 5,000 miles. that was at about 150,000 miles. Never broke a spring or frame. Have replaced the rear axle but that was at 125,000 and that was before I started using it for a hauler. No issues with axle since.
Yea some people don't get the oil thing?? I change oil in all my stuff religiously. In vehicles that don't make that Mark they get an oil change every year.
Most of these cord loads never went on the road as they are from the homeplace. I do run close to cord loads on the road and just take it easy from farm to farm. Used to running loads with weight like that as when I worked on the farm we had a 500 gallon spray rigs on 2 different trucks and had 6000 lbs over the rear axles on nearly every load. Did break a frame in one of those one time. Spring breaks too as bouncing over plowed fields was hard on them.
Now we're talkin'! Those are some good old trucks doing what they were meant to do. Answering the question "Can you really put a full cord in a standard bed pickup?" That truck needs some side racks, then you could really load it up.
