Walking across a freezing cold floor in your jammies to stoke the fire at 2 am is no fun. Hope it works well for you.

Basicly Jetjr, "and I didn't mean to be brushing the subject off", In my opinion, it creates more disturbance in the fire box and makes more flow disruption. It has a double edge blade if you will, It can help with the heating but if not designed right can "really" screw up your draft flow so you will be getting a house full of smoke every time you open your doors. What you want is a smoooooooth flow and long travel with very little obstacles:cool:.

Did not think you blew it off man. No worries. Figured you were the best person to ask though. I respect all the advice you have given.

It still smokes like a coal locomotive at startup...but quite a bit less after that.

Sure, as does mine…. and most will regardless of EPA standard. But I'm sure it's much better :)

This is what I found when I opened the stove this AM after 13 hours. It wasn't a full load either. Stove top at 550 for the duration.

The picture doesn't do it justice...the pieces on the side havent really burned yet.

Got about 10 loads with the baffle now. Gonna take a peek down the flue tonight...just to be sure nothing is out of the ordinary.

Could just be the warmer temps outside but also could be that the baffle is slowing just a little too much heat up the chimney. You might need to experiment with a little more air, don't want to lose all the gains but maybe just a little balancing act if you know what I mean. Any time you do a mod like that it'll take a little while to get it dialed in just right. I played with the baffle in my old one a few times, it always had a baffle but I made it a little bigger and angled the flow a little. My real big change to get used too was when I hooked it to a liner instead of a slammer, wow, different stove.

I have no air adjustment though...it is all thermostat controlled. Probably just a lot of cold starts.
