Pot Roast is better than nothing but I thought I was buying steak like usual. Disappointed in an old faithful :( Not liking the residue not to mention the workout I'm getting cleaning the glass.Maybe it's the stove because it is doing just what you were posting LW. Have Lennox (snapswitch) Winslow PS40 and it has run fine on steak of years past....getting fixer man to check it out... not in my skill set:confused:

After burning 2 bags of Okie Gold I did find some chunky ash. It was hard enough that it wouldn't crumble with my finger pressure. I also noticed a green flicker every know and then when I was flame watching. Also, my claim about bag dust was lessened with the second bag so probably not an issue or concern. I have a ton of Okie Gold out in my shed so this discussion is pertinent to me.

I'm working my way through a ton of Okie Gold, probably about 20 bags in. No hard or chunky ash here. I get the normal Harman "speed bump" but other than that the ash is light and crumbly. More ash than the old white bag Okies of way back when, but to be expected in my opinion... different product. Good heat.

Well I am late to this discussion and I am experiencing the same issues as Spock (same XXV). I am pretty sure the stove is fine as I ran a half ton of Liggies before I switched to the Golds. I can live with the clinkers but my concern is the black soot on the back of the stove which inhibits the heat exchange. Although it comes off easy, I am having to clean the stove every 2 days. When it is clean the Golds produce gobs of heat. I would try another ton right now but the three I have left are being stored at CT and I won't be able to get there for a few days.

How about the glass? Are you getting the black soot there as well, or just the exchanger?

I am getting it on the exchanger. The glass is getting the normal amount of brown soot.

kinda weird to get it just on the exchanger....usually its on the glass first....stoopid question, but is your flame guide in good shape, and is it sitting tight against it's backrest?
