If you don't have a land line just cut off that service drop at your end and coil it up so nobody gets tangled up in it on the road. Even an in-service phone line only carries 48V so there is no personal hazard working with it.
Yup, insurance came through for us. Going to cover the cost for a complete replacement, just under $17K. They use Ice & water 6' up from the eves and all the valleys but I'm going to pay the extra to have them use I&W under it all.
Thank you for the post, I too am so sick of this weather. I have some large trees to drop and skid down a steep hill and want the ground to tighten up before doing so. I also have not had a day without a hurricane to even consider dropping them....top it off, throw in some snow each night. Frustrating!!!!
Finally got ahold of Fairpoint about their line across the road. Would you believe that I was able to reach someone on their FaceBook page. That really is outrageous. Even on that site, they wanted me to fill out some form. I told them NO. I repeated that they have a line down across the road. I told them exactly where it is. They can take it from there. I am not giving them some way to recover cost from me. Found another Hemlock leaning over from the wind and rain. This one about 60 ft tall. It was hung up in some other trees. My son couldn't let it be so he went after it. I wasn't too pleased with how he kept cutting the butt end off to get it down, he did have it tied off. He got it down and cut up without incident.
