I offered to move to No Cal where hubbys family lives. He said I wouldn't make through 3 months of pea soup fog and no sun.....
Same here. We are on a plateau 800' above the lake and up against a mountain range 10 miles to our SW. From Nov-end of Dec the cold N air comes across the warm lake picking up moisture , making clouds. Then it hits the higher elevation of the plateau and the clouds become heavier. Once the lake cools or freezes over and there isn't such a water to air temp difference then we get some sun. The lake has been froze over for a few weeks and we have had a lot of sunny days albeit cold,,,,, sunny days. We should have a couple sunny months till the lake thaws. That big ice cube to the west will give us a long cold spring and cooler summer than normal.
Definitely in most of MI, come November, we don't plan on seeing much sunshine until February. Happens yearly. Something about being surrounded by all that water. But it has good points too. Being surrounded by those big lakes mostly moderates our temperatures so we don't get nearly the low temperatures they get on the other side of the pond. I kept reminding myself of that yesterday when we didn't get above zero and this morning when it was -20.
