Same thing happened to me, I decided when I was there to get the rear heat shield in order to get more room in front of the stove on the hearth.
Looking forward to seeing your medallion and burner artwork. I got a maple leaf with a fall color on the leaf, the stove body is all charcoal. My wife and I are very happy with the patience WS had with us to getting it right the first time.

    Hey IS,

Just noticed your post. I'm looking at getting a probe thermometer for my double wall. Is this what you have? How far up the pipe from the collar did you install it? And finally, at what flue temp did you normally engage the cat?
    Thanks! :)

The condar flue thermometer looks the same as mine in body, but the face looks a little different. Currently I don't have a double wall flue installed yet, I have the pieces but have yet to install them. Last winter I engaged the cat using both of my thermometers, the surface and probe. They were both on the flue and the numbers both reflected when the time was right. The probe read between 500-600 and the surface was just above 275. The surface therm is the one that came with the stove. I'd say the thermometers are about 14" above the collar, and of course I'm guessing as I type this from the couch in the next room over.

Picked up a drolet optima and all the super vent goodies required to make it happen.

We fought all last year to get heat over to the other side of the house. Said enough of that, we're putting a small parlor stove on the other side.

Was eyeing the optima when I noticed most places went out of stock. Saw menards still had them so I jumped on it. Wanted to wait until later into fall but we squeaked it into this months budget.

Waiting for the weather to cool off a bit before I crawl up in the attic to do the chimney install.

Were going to have a Myriad and an Optima heating 800 Sq ft. Clothing will be optional....

Thanks for the info! I'm sure (at least at first) I'll be one of those stove-tinkerers I've read so much about. Will probably have the probe, surface, and the ir thermometer out. Lol.

We like to make sure our heaters are humming along and by keeping an eye on the numbers we do that.

One thing I don't have yet is an IR, thats on the list for this year.

    What do you have Brad?

So far, only measurement tool I have is the magnetic thermometer that was included with it. I figure that will be stove-top, then before I begin burning, I'll probably order the probe one for the double-wall to help in engaging the cat. Maybe an ir just for fun!

IIRC weren't we waiting in a probe company to come out with a probe long enough to reach the cat from the plug on the front of the IS? Or am I wrong on that?

I think WS just put the port they because they had to, I'm not sure they put any thought into actually putting a probe there. Only reason I say that is that is after I routed the cat probe I got from condar last year, it was more of a project than it was good in the end. I'd be happier installing a thermocouple to a digital thermometer than I probe, I know the numbers would be more accurate with the electronics.

I've never used an electronic thermocouple. I guess I'm gonna stick with the stick on thermometer and my ir gun for the first year and move on from there

I need to replace my thimble.... Again!:headbang:
Second one to develop a crack in it.
6" ID terra cotta, cut in flush the the inside of the 6" square flue tile liner, "chimney/ furnace" cemented in place.
I think the biggest issue is the dogs running past the stove and occasionally knocking into it- it's a cabinet style stove, so kinda light weight- may have to sink some tapcons and anchor that sucker:hair:

Maybe someday I can replace the masonry chimney and stove with the appropriate "current" goodies!

I found that 300 degrees stovetop was a good indicator to close the bypass. Maybe it can be done a little sooner, but I like to make sure the internal components are good and hot. This helped me prevent cat stall.

Got most of the internal chimney work done for the Optima install.

High of only 65F today so the attic work wasn't too miserable.

Need to add one more section of supervent, add the rain cap/flashing then seal up the roof and we are good to go. Buddy at work is a contractor and is going to bring me half a bundle that sorta match. We will probably be redoing the roof in a couple years, no need to get picky.

Shouldn't have nailed that down until the shingles were under the bottom.

I nail and tar the thimble to the tar paper then shingle all round it tight to the outer diameter of the thimble. Then fill the small gap between the shingles and thimble with roofing tar.

Never had one leak this way. I have had them leak before with shingles underneath the thimble.

I'll take a picture tomorrow after I get it finished.
