Getting there nice and slow. Working solo sucks. Read MC after piece was in basement for several hours:

Yeah I’m definitely a tad jealous  During the 2023-2024 season I’ll be in the same boat burning red oak just about exclusively. Until then I only have limited amounts of various oaks and some other heavy hitters like black birch, black locust and sugar maple. At least I know now to scrounge some every year and eventually I’ll always have some ready to go. Funny how that should’ve been apparent to me years ago. :)

    Better late than never!!

Decided to clear the rest of the second row from the stack. Two big trailer loads will have to wait for another day to get stacked. My hands are screaming.

That Oak will keep a fire going for a good long time for sure! Now if no one has mentioned it, they make these things called hydraulics that take the strain off the body when dealing with heavy logs & such.

    I only carried splits today.

Hands/fingers hurt from gripping those splits. I did keep them on the large side for long burn times. The older I get the more issues I have with joint discomfort when I over-do it. I'm kinda behind this season getting wood in from helping my dad. I worked from about 11a till dark. This amount of wood typically wouldn't bother me because I've had help in the past.

Finished stacking last night. Turned out to be 1.44 cords. Nice start to packing the basement for the upcoming season.

And there will be 2 more rows beside the stairs. Nice beginnings.

With lots of other "one year" drying woods you could mix those in as well. Not having a woods to cut from we have the luck of the score so we never know. Nice to be picky when scrounging now.

Yes, the score is in the beginning of this thread. And this stuff helps me tremendously, along with compression gloves (overnight).

Glad that OTC works well for you. We're not Spring chickens anymore...as much as i hate to say it. I think and behave like someone 20 years younger but the ol' body reminds me of my age sometimes.
Knock on wood (no pun intended) with a lifetime of constantly using my hands i dont have issues other than some occasional trigger finger on middle and ring finger of my left hand and some minor pain. I have a scrip for 800mg ibuprofen which i dont use that often.

Nice score Jason, Nice stuff for sure. Too bad to hear about your back and hands, I have been there, my fire wooding is done in moderation.

Have a little bit of this wood left in my stacks, tucked away where it was not easy to access. Since we’re running a little low on wood in the basement, and the boss said I could cut out a little early, I decided to move 4 trailer loads.
    B92C54B0-C723-4B0A-8AD4-C7F6DBEB6272.jpeg

There’s probably 4-5 more but if what I moved can get us through the rest of this season, I’ll give it to my son.

Absolute peach of a day here. It’s 50 and sunny. If there wasn’t a cold breeze, I’d have been in a t-shirt!

Ended up being .65 cord. That’ll put this years use at 3.65 if it lasts us throughout spring.

I’m still impressed that oak dried as fast as it did, and through the monsoon summer of 2021 no less. It’s time I bring in more firewood myself. I’m just about out of oak for this year, but I have plenty of maple and apple to dig into.
