Great looking wood! Was it on the neighbors, the golf course, or yours. I saw 80 foot from the property line but wondered whose? So nice to not have to haul it far. That’ll spoil anyone for sure!
We usually use a smaller log, but with these big rounds we are moving the splitter frequently anyway. Not much sit down time.
The little one is mine. The redheads are his cousins, my sisters kids. Any more then the 6 logs that I had them do, and we would have had to break out the sunblock.
Yes, the tree was dead for at least a year. Still plenty green inside, but the bark is dropping right off. Hoping to burn this for the 21-22 season, I think it will be dandy if I get it stacked and covered in short order. I just don't like to work too many pieces this heavy all in a day, my shoulder doesn't hurt yet, but there have been noises.... I think there are 14 or so big rounds left to split.
Nice. There is one like that the loggers left in woods behind my place too. I think if the ground ever dries enough back there I may make a few cuts and decide if it is worth recovery. It has been on the ground at least 4 years, I don't know if they forgot it or what.
On the line between neighbor and golf course. Basically, the golf course owns an acre or so in front of this guys house, and he has a right of way for his driveway and utilities. Don't know when things ended up that way. Last owner wanted to develop. Current owners do not, so that makes us happy.
Yea I hope it's not too pithy for you. What a waste if it iz... but heartwood should stand test of time. Just a pain to get pithy off.. nice tho.
Finally finished up splitting all the rounds from the trunk. Took this long to have a dry enough yard to work in, and we still had a few rain drops come through. There is one other pile of splits and small rounds from the branches not pictured. I could use a few trees like this every year.
So, over the summer the tree that this one hit died. Took advantage of frozen ground to lay it down. Still have another this size to drop as well. Didn't start cutting it up yet, it was getting dark by the time the wind settled down to where I was more comfortable bringing it down. First cut with the 36" 500i.
