Had about 4 loads like this that I css the other day. More to come when I skid the rest off the hill.
I agree, thats a great pic. Nothing like having the machines to save the wear and tear on your back. How much did you get out of it in total?
Guessing that there was about 2/3 a chord. More to come as this was the upper portions that I could get a chain to. The others will have to come out a gas line right of way in the dryer months.
You gotta love that oak. A lot of folks don't consider it on top of their favorite list, but I don't think it can be beat when properly seasoned. I am lucky to be far enough ahead and to have the room to do it the right way, so it is a favorite of mine.
We have a lot of oak, cherry, and locust in my area. Also, I am thinning quite a few big ugly walnuts. I like them all a lot but really like the smell of walnut burning!!
I burn 90% oak and then some cherry, ash, and locust. The key is 2 years split and stacked uncovered. I put it in the burn shed in October to stay dry. The sun and wind are your friend when it comes to aging oak.
Black Walnut is in big demand here. Timber guys will pay BIG $$ for it! http://www.ohiotimberworks.com/black-walnut-lumber.php
