    It depends, here a home owner can put in his own septic system, plumbing & electric. It does get inspected.

    For us non-lumber experts, could you explain this one a little more? Seems a 2x6 should be a 2x6 no matter where it comes from, but I honestly don't know. Thanks!

    A "store bought" 2x anything used to start *life as a full 2" thick (in the case of a 2x 3,4,6,8, etc) by the full width, the it got planed down smooth with consistent dimensions making a "2 by" 1 1/2" thick and a 2x4 is 3.5 wide, 2x6 usually 5.5, 2x8 about 7.25 etc.
    The term board ft. is 144 cubic inches in any shape, a volume measurement. Sawmill lumber is not nearly as consistent as store bought, it can vary (due to the machinery and lack of planing) up to a 1/4", at least around here.

    * lord only knows what a modern mill with computers, laser scanners and all the other technology of today makes the first cut (size) at these days. :thumbs:

    Every "2x6" i have ever seen come out of a mill here in oregon was 1 9/16 thick x 5 1/2 wide.
