It depends, here a home owner can put in his own septic system, plumbing & electric. It does get inspected.
Shawn Curry- build the thing and when/if the tax assessor comes around and asks "what's this?" tell him Hurricane walt[er] came thru and uncovered it..... right? Heck, you never even knew it was there...
For us non-lumber experts, could you explain this one a little more? Seems a 2x6 should be a 2x6 no matter where it comes from, but I honestly don't know. Thanks!
A "store bought" 2x anything used to start *life as a full 2" thick (in the case of a 2x 3,4,6,8, etc) by the full width, the it got planed down smooth with consistent dimensions making a "2 by" 1 1/2" thick and a 2x4 is 3.5 wide, 2x6 usually 5.5, 2x8 about 7.25 etc. The term board ft. is 144 cubic inches in any shape, a volume measurement. Sawmill lumber is not nearly as consistent as store bought, it can vary (due to the machinery and lack of planing) up to a 1/4", at least around here. * lord only knows what a modern mill with computers, laser scanners and all the other technology of today makes the first cut (size) at these days.
