No just savvy on FBM. Quality primo wood score and i didnt snooze. Having a perpetual wood hoarding "problem" helps too. :tree::picard:

Turns out just by chance i know the tree guy. He doesnt save the wood for the most part.

Had a little time this afternoon, but not enough to cut another load so i ran the splitter and did some stacking. Not quite enough B grade splits for the stack to top it off. Plenty of A grade for bundle wood that will get moved next door. IMG_3991.JPG IMG_3992.JPG Made some room for more rounds. IMG_3995.JPG Gonna try and hit the score tomorrow.
Weather will be dry at least.

Pretty straight grain for cherry! Most of the ones I scrounge are twisted and don't stack for _____. :hair:

Yes and im loving it. I kinda cringe every time i cut it not knowing what the splits will come out looking like. The stuff i cut last month (here and there score) was a lot worse than this. Even stacking the B grade splits i noticed the difference. Even then some couldve gone into the A pile. Kinda splitting hairs and no pun intended.

I split the two rounds. Split easily and clean. Seems heavy with water. Gonna stack with bundle wood in the shed and see what happens. If i have time ill grab more but the cherry and sugar maple the precedent. IMG_3993.JPG IMG_3994.JPG

Thanks for the tidbit. It will be the last i cut. Not much in the way of mill quality logs. Most cut to fireplace length already. Wanted to save a couple cherry logs for milling but forgot.

Hit the score for the third load today. All cherry again. Nice, dry and very breezy in the upper 60's. Forgot how much i like cutting in those conditions. IMG_4000.JPG IMG_4001.JPG All the good big cherry gone. Lots of small 4-6" diameter which i'll grab as is tomorrow. IMG_4002.JPG IMG_4003.JPG IMG_4004.JPG Gonna take the sugar maple tomorrow two as im going for two loads. IMG_4005.JPG

I get to the cut this afternoon and there's another hoarder there. Luckily he was taking mostly the Katsura. Had a real nice chat with him. He had a 6' bed truck and left with maybe a 1/4 cord. IMG_4006.JPG Judging by the end cut of this cookie his saw was very dull. He was using a Stihl MS170 & MS180 but i didnt actually see him cut. IMG_4009.JPG
Fourth load and i didnt cut. Only loaded the longer cherry smalls...mostly 4-6" diameter logs and the shorts/cookies. Decided to heft that big chunk before i left. Maybe 3/4 of the load are smalls. IMG_4020.JPG IMG_4019.JPG Nice katsura log for milling. Ill load that tomorrow and cut a load of sugar maple. IMG_4012.JPG IMG_4013.JPG

Unloaded yesterdays load this morning. IMG_4033.JPG IMG_4035.JPG IMG_4034.JPG Went back and grabbed the lone millable katsura log and dropped at buzz-saw's. (closest log) IMG_4024.JPG Had some lunch, went back and cut a load of sugar maple plus a few more pieces of cherry found under the brush. IMG_4026.JPG IMG_4027.JPG
LOTS of wood to be split at storage. Scrounged three cords in eight days. 2.5 at this score alone. IMG_4030.JPG IMG_4031.JPG IMG_4032.JPG IMG_4036.JPG Debating on cutting a load of katsura just for chits and giggles. Never know if ill ever score more.

It was rather noticeable when i walked through the "alley" of rounds. Have you sold much cherry yet Joe?

Always a sinking feeling when you come across another apex wood predator in the wild. You see that pickup truck and get a sinking feeling. They usually turn out to be good people.

Great that you only have to take what you want! I picked up a stack of free bluestone yesterday (for a patio project…or might redo the front walk), but felt obliged to take all the little chunks as a favor to the homeowner. It reminded me of how much I love cherry-picking firewood.

Between yesterday and today i got maybe a half cord split. Finished the cherry stack. Moved some bundle splits next door and stacked in the shed. Need more racks to open up for stacking. Ill be able to process more tomorrow and Friday. IMG_4041.JPG IMG_4040.JPG IMG_4043.JPG IMG_4044.JPG IMG_4046.JPG IMG_4051.JPG

Split maybe a half cord today. All the sugar maple done and some cherry. IMG_4053.JPG IMG_4054.JPG Moved a bunch of bundle splits next door and stacked. Forgot to get stacks pics. Finished the first row and got maybe half of the second done. May split more tomorrow. IMG_4052.JPG

Do the stacks on the back of your truck ever crash while you’re taking them next door? I used to move wood around my yard like that and would leave a trail of splits, or I’d have to stop and pick up a partial collapse.
