Yes, complete gov't stupidity to turn food into gas. Ethanol also takes more energy to make than gasoline does, and it has 40% less energy. Go figure.
I have to say that my saws have never run better ! I was running 110LL from Cam 2 and liked it. The station I got it from sells kero in the winter, so I had no way to get fuel. Went to Grainger and got some VP The saws run snappier and have more power, plus I dont worry about storage at all. I go through about 20 gallons a year, and just adjusted a few jobs to cover the expense. I wont run anything else but VP SEF, and add my own 2 cycle oil
Smells great ............. I will save you a cup if you want to try In all seriousness, the saws needed re-tuned when I switched, they actually picked up more power. It was fun to hear the fuel make its way through the saw The VP burns real clean and smells great in liquid and out the exhaust
Eh, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, using 10% ethanol doesn't matter. Just my personal experience using e10 in all of my toys over the 20 yrs we've had it. The biggest issue is contamination of your fuel system over the years from sub prime gasoline. Then going to e10 cleans all that gunk out, once you switch and that can at bare minimum plug filters, and mess with carburetors, or any fuel system. I've dealt with it on my nearly classic ski nautique. The switch to e10 after 20+ yrs on non ethanol left the inside of the aluminum fuel tank a tarnished yellow from old fuel, to shiny aluminum from the alcohol cleaning it. That yellow tarnish ended up in my fuel water separator filter(s), then my carb. The bright side is that I know all about holley 4160 4 barrel carbs now. If you use e10 on a brand new motor, you'll have no issues provided it's only e10 at most.
Straight ethanol makes a ton of power. Look at Indy cars or other street cars tuned to run ethanol. It's not as simple as just less energy. It uses more gallons od ethanol than gasoline but they make more power. Corn isn't a good food source. It's not a naturally eaten food for cows, salmon, or people. Corn is largely non digestible. Eat some corn, wait for nature to happen and see what hasn't been digested. Corn is a filler. It either fills our gas tanks, or is a filler for animals. Also, ethanol can be made from corn, while still allowing food to be made from that same kernel. I've seen both sides of this argument so many times, that I feel I need to educate as many as I can. Sorry, rant off.
I'm enjoying a nice glass of Basil Haydens right now. I was an Elmer T. Lee man before it went to $50 a bottle.
The VP fuel mixed with klotz is an awesome smelling combo. Acohol has to flow 2.4x for the same amount of gas through a saw carb.
Thanks for reminding me of this - last time I checked this site, nearest was about 1.5 h away, new site must have been added about 15 minutes away! Might finally have a chance to get good gas! Cheers!
The only problems in this train of thought is that there are some other "biggest issues" that nobody considers; ethanol is corrosive to aluminum, as well as magnesium. Lets have a quick guess as to what our beloved saws (and other equipment) is made from, shall we ? Hows about our cars ?? Aluminum blocks, heads, intakes, fuel systems made from aluminum have this corrosive liquid going through them. Ever take apart a carb from a newish piece of OPE and see what looks like salt deposits ? Hows about pitting along an intake tract or venturi of a carb ? I am definitely on one side of the fence with ethanol, due to excess cabbage being taken away from my wallet at very inopportune times. I also have had to deliver some very bad (read expensive) news to others due to ethanol at our pumps having close to 20% content of the fuel in their tanks. I have tested the fuel myself (you can get $10 test kits) and seen the results. I think in a perfect world 10% could be fine, heck I have added caster oil to methanol to keep fuel pumps and carburators alive in some very high $$ race motors, but this world has Mr. Murphy running around, and he visits my area way too often.
There is a BBQ place just down the road. I went in yesterday for lunch and there was a guy working on one of the pumps and he said they were adding 93 E free. Which will save a bunch of time. I will add it to the pure fuel site when they are up and running.
No offence to you WMW0505 But ,It's funny the op couldn't find this , because it has been brought up many times here
You mean the one in Gordonsville? They are good but a little spendy. These guys used to be on 53, but are now between Zion and C-ville on 250.
Ouch - not good for me - just called - the new location sells minimum 5 gallon containers at minimum 98 octane for $76!!! Dang! Looks like I'm sticking with ethanol! Cheers!
None taken. I did a search for the name of the website and came up with nothing. Perhaps my searching techniques are sub par.
