I currently have a crappy US Stove 2016EB. If you look it up, you will see that I made a mistake

I dont want a catalytic stove. I know the arguments here can go back and forth, but I like looking at flames, not embers.

I thought you said he was trying to help by cleaning the stove. He broke something because he is young. I would be concerned that the Lesson he'll learn by making him pay, is not to help at all. I raised two sons and two daughters. The sons always were breaking things. Now they can take apart and fix about anything they set out to. One just built his own home and is a supervisor at a large construction company. The other one is self employed and is doing just fine. I've seen them take apart a car, have the whole thing spread out over the garage floor, fix whatever, put it back together and drive off. When I saw what was going on, I just made sure we had appropriate tools available.

I'm never mad at my boys for long. Sure I'm upset, but with my boys, 14 and 16, usually a good stern talking to about the mistakes you can make in life and how much it could cost you in the long and short runs gets them really thinking.
They are both really great kids, they have lots of friends, they never even fight with each other. I count my blessings almost everyday with how blessed my wife and I are.
Ha, my youngest even want to be the next Pastor at our church. We are staunch Lutherans.

Yep he was trying to help out, but didn't know that the baffles at the top of the stove were not hard as bricks. A short stern taking to is all he got..... I love my kids

I wonder if Hardy board would work , it's cement board with a fire rating ? and it's very affordable compared to factory replacement board.

Even though it wouldn't burn, I doubt it would last for long...just wouldn't hold up to the intense heat and flame impingement (IMO) it might work long enough to get you through to getting a new one though?

No. Cementitious board will not work. Anything with Portland cement in it can not withstand direct flame. Plus, the last time I installed Hardi board/backer, you can see it has a paper like layering to it.
Durock, although not layered is also a no-go.
    Must be ceramic fiber/refractory.

I’m serious but we live very far apart so the logistics may be difficult.

Congrats on the new Drolet! I bet you will be happy with it. SBI, Drolet’s parent company, makes quality products at affordable prices. I liked my Drolet Austral. High quality and budget price. I replaced it with a Woodstock Ideal Steel this year because The Austral was a hungry beast. I have no plans to get rid of the Drolet. It will eventually be my shop stove.

I get it if you just don’t want a catalytic stove for personal preference, but saying a catalytic stove doesn’t have a flame show is simply not true. There are plenty of stoves out there with a catalyst in them that prove a beautiful flame show 35FEE0B5-DFB3-4AEC-8955-F4906EA9FBAC.jpeg

So my new stove has been delivered from ( Quebec, I'm guessing) Canada, and is at a shipping depot in South Bend, Indiana.

Just waiting on them to set up a delivery date/time.

My old stove is cooking right now, anyway. It's only -6 below out, supposed to dip to -20 below tonight. Currently, it's 75 in my basement

From what i read it has a 22 x 22 inch fire box, very impressive, size does matter!

They have a big warehouse there...normally when you order it comes right from there...but they must have had to built some...fresh off the line!
