Sold a cord of barkless black locust and delivered half this afternoon. Speaking on the phone he asked about the woods moisture content. Maybe second time ive ever been asked this. I get there and he comes out. Nice house in a nice quiet neighborhood. BMer in the driveway. Oriental man wearing flipflops comes out and helps me unload in the rain. We talked briefly and he mentioned shoulder season wood. He had some poplar on hand. First for me other than here. Asked about beech trees and i pointed a couple out in his woods. He had some rounds and splits on hand and a used axe so he wasnt afraid to make his own firewood. Nice little PA with crushed stone and by all the wood shards littering it he had been splitting. Told me of the cinder block log racks he was making. He texts me tonight saying the wood is burning very nice and he checked MC and 13-15% (but dont know if he split it first to check) and would want three more cords by the Fall! Tempted to work a deal for selling him rounds by the PU full but not all BL. His first load.
Nice when their eyes don't glass over when you talk shop. Do you consider that load a 1/4 or 1/3 cord? Or do you just set a price for what you have available? A nice kid starting selling that way to keep prices down here. He told me that he is getting a 100 bucks loaded that way.
That looks like excellent wood. I hope you get a premium for it because its definitely worth it to those who know! So cool you ran into a customer so knowledgeable. Brad
Processing Area? wildwest you surprise me. An active member since 2014 and dont know the FHC shorthand? Took me a while to figure a lot of them out.
That is a half cord. I do a split count based on prior loads from a measured half cord stack. I get a premium for black locust. This was a delivery out of my normal range and got extra for it. I gave him a deal on the delivery as i wanted to move the wood to make room for more.
Turns out he was from British Columbia...Vancouver area. Chinese Canadian. Any black locust in your area Brad?
Oh I see, ya, usually I can understand peoples shorthand from the context of the paragraph but not this one.
Hey Now it’s not short hand Wild West has trouble with. It’s Man speak a member with over 16,500 posts; should know this
I don't think we have black locust in the Vancouver area unless it is a yard tree. Definitely not in the wilds around here anyway.
Good deal buZZsaw BRAD. When I went to talk to the gentleman who I bought the 16 cord of 4' splits from, he was talking about moisture meter readings, top covering and never said "seasoning", it was always the term "dry." It was good to speak with someone who understood the process. I actually asked him if he was a member on the forum.
