I have fun trying to counter gravity to give the back a break. My brother, who is 67, wouldn't get anywhere near how I work up firewood. He swings a maul for the exercise and loves it. I thought about him yesterday looking at all this iron in the yard… One healthy man or woman can do the same thing as the machines… alone. I will say that my "fun" factor is a whole lot higher tho… especially the next morning after a good session the day before.
For me, any reduced bending or lifting has made a huge difference in my after effects. I use the pickeroon a lot to avoid bending, when I can too. I try not to use any force anymore in a twisting motion. That's a bad one. If I'd exercise a little more pushing away from the table, I could lug around a few less pounds too… I'm all over it now… I figure by the time I'm 150, I ought to be pretty skinny… A 3000 lb 12 volt winch tugs on a 1 to 3 ratio block and tackle rope lift line. It gives me a lot of line length and 3X faster line speed.
Finished up the 2 yr wood today. All split and stacked. Moved the dog n pony show down to the 3rd year pile of logs. Giz had her cousins over for a while… All of the slab wood, that was under the 2 yr pile of logs, laid on the fire pit for later when things dry out around here… Feels great to get the rounds of the 2 yr wood in the shed… Planning to add a 3rd section on the shed in 2 parts. Floor will be done first and sit on blocks not connected to the shed. (Kinda like pallets) Will build the roof over the floor later, so wood stacking can happen in the meantime. I'd like to split and carry the 3 yr wood with the bucket, right to that new floor to stack, instead of tossing into a pile that I would have to move again later.
wow! Nice job, you got a lot of splitting and stacking done and still have a bunch of wood left to go. Almost two cords cut and stacked? Can't wait to see the expanded wood shed project....
