Maybe plant something else there. seniors like to see young trees grow. They will feel good about it when and if they leave it behind. Very glad you were able to come to your neighbors aid. That means a lot to them.
It's a shame, A lot of the heart wood inside was soft and beginning to rot, also the carpenter ants had completely consumed the inside of one full limb, It was just it's time. I did think of cutting out a clear ring and burning in the trees planting date with my wood burning kit "which" both of them remember well! They do not burn wood so my Buddy Ray and I will split the tree up. He has an old Harman wood/coal stove.
If I lived closer I would buy you a beer and shake your hand. You just prove there are good people who still care in this world and work toward contributing to the greater good. I too and I don't mean to sound mean have older neighbors. My wife and I watch out for them. Us Both being in the medical field we are the local dr's I guess you could say. We watch them closely. Between us and another neighbor we help them do just about anything they need done It's harder with older people who want to do and sometimes do case in point my 81 year old nieghbor across the road getting on the roof cleaning his gutters without me knowing it. You can't say hey don't do that. They get more determined to do it then I started a food basket donation for seniors at thanksgiving and Christmas at my lodge it is such a good feeling knowing you are helping them. Most times we found when given the choice of food or medicine they have to pick the latter Keep up the good work your a good man. The world needs more like you
Yup WeldrDave is a good guy... you and your wife are as well... seems this FHC site attracts a lot of gooder folks, eh... ........
Thanks for the kind words woodrat! Although, I think anyone here would do the same! It's just the right thing to do..
Dave, if it's too bad for tables how about a clock.. you could wood burn the numbers in and their anniversary date. and then plant them a new one?
A big thank you to Dave and Woodrat. My hat is off to you and my drink is up for a toast to you two! 1965 was when that tree was planted. Easy for us to relate to this because my wife and I were married in 1962. We no longer live where we did when we got married but have many fond memories of that place so can imagine what that tree meant to them. And yes, it would be great if they could have something special from this tree as a remberance.
Dennis, That means a lot coming from you, but as I said earlier I think anyone here would have done the same thing! But thanks Dennis and Thanks to all for the kind words. This is "OUR" group, and there is no place I would rather be. The integrity and morality of the folks here amaze me for one reason, If you didn't like it here, you would leave!!! There are only a "GREAT" group of folks here and I know in my heart that if I asked anyone here for something or I was in need, I know someone on this forum would be at my front door! How coooooool is that!
We finished up today, That is a big stump! I'll be taking it down in pieces. Sadly we had to take about a half cord of rotted stuff to the dump, It was really bad in spots. I'm guessing we both made out with 3/4 cord said and done for each of us.
