Also use TP and paper towel holders, have a bag full of them. Just threw a couple on the fire as we speak
I have three banana boxes filled with old Wall Street Journal s that I collected from work back in the day. Also, a big box of candle remnants that I'll eventually melt into some sawdust to make some super ED3000 firestarters (like supercedars, but without the following, or price). Funny thing is, starting in October, we almost never have to start a fire from scratch. Just put the wood on the coals, and off she goes. Sometimes requires the billows.
I use newspaper thats thrown in my driveway. I guess everyone here knows newspaper has a grain direction. It will shred in long strips in only one way. I put twigs from my river birch on top of the newspaper and cedar kindling on top of that. The river birch trees produces an endless supply of twigs. So it gives me an excuse to clean up the yard and start a fire in the pit. I only have to start my Outdoor Furnace once for the season unless I leave town for a while.
Newspaper and splitter leavings. Like many, once winter sets in don't need much. Even shoulder season won't need much.
No newspaper, but I generate a ton of printer paper working from home. Most goes in the recycling, but some gets used for fires. A couple balled up pieces and some scraps of cardboard below some pine scrap works. I've been able to relight off coals every day though, except yesterday when I got home from an overnight trip.
I like that fire setup T.Jeff Veal with 2 smaller pieces going north and south, longer pieces going east and west. Nice aisle for air flow, think am gonna dig up some short pieces and try it out and maybe going forward start cutting some shorties for North/South placement!
We also use a plumbers torch, maap gas is expensive here so I use the Coleman one pound bottle. Stack wood crib style. The torch gets the fire going quickly enough that we don’t use kindling. Standing dead fire kill lights that I harvest light up quickly.
I use about 11"long, 3-4" wide pieces north/South, paper gets the sides of those burning quick. I have access to scrap boards that I can cut .
So, after you download the app, what's it do? Short out the battery and make it over heat until it ignites?
news paper with spliter scraps/milling scraps. I grab a couple of those 'around town' papers at the drug store and use them for paper. Also been known to use a torch. My favorite is a few squirts of Instant hand sanitizer or a squirt of Rubbing Alcohol.
Picked up a box of these at Tractor Supply on Saturday after seeing them mentioned here. Good stuff. Probably get at least 2 years out of a box too.
I use Pine Mountain fire starters from Walmart, at the end of the season they drop the price from $10 to $3 a box for 24. I keep some newspaper and kindling around too.
newspapers, my friends save them for me, so they are free. I also save my shredded papers in small paper bags too
Yep I keep in a plastic trash bag in the garage. I add a little lamp oil to mine in a small paper cup.
