Welcome to the forum Thoreau and Fanatical1. You should fit right in. For the GTG, ask Dexter Day or Swags or any moderator. I believe if you go to that last forum on the list, there is a sticky at the top of the page about it.
Welcome aboard guys good to have you. There is starting to be a fair number from out around Dayton, Cinnci. Real friendly bunch here and no politics allowed that's especially nice. Hocking Hills is a darn nice area too.
Welcome Thoreau's Cabin! From one Ohio guy to another, we welcome you to FHC!! Lots of Ohio people here! I like it! Be sure to look up the GTG at Swags place on the weekend of May 17th. Gonna be a good time!
I hope they don't have food at this GTG gig, I swallowed a big June bug when we were driving. I'm not really hungry.
Welcome Thoreau, great to see so many Ohio guys here, I had no idea so many here from Ohio. That's an interesting name you picked. Does it reflect on your years in the city compared to where you now. Or are you, besides a new wood hoarder, also a literary follower or a transcendentalist? Just curious. I like folks from all sorts of backgrounds. I think our own histories can define us and make us stronger or we can let them break us. It's easy to see the path you've chosen when you and your wife tell each other everyday how much you love your house. Nice to see another Ohioan not give on this place, I still think Ohio is a great place to live.
Wow Andy, don't ask much, huh? The short version is that I'm not a literary follower, but I;d like to read more works by transcendentalist writers. I would say that the rest of the assumptions hold some truth, but, yes, more so the transcendentalism more than the rest. I guess one analogy could be that I'm a prepper in knowledge and ability, but not in materials. I stopped watching the 'news' and reading the paper about 2 years ago and noticed my blood pressure dropped below the previous 'borderline'. I still must conform to society, but I find myself stepping a little farther out every day. Ha, it almost sounds like I'm a quitter! The only TV I seem to watch is programs regarding life and survival in Alaska, and of course 'The Legend of Mick Dodge'. I'd like to play the game 'Survivor' but I'd loose the social game, probably by DQ for snappin on somebody. There's more to the story about how I arrived where I'm at, but I just stacked a cord, and I need some beer and stuff... Get some popcorn, I'll add more. Here is whats left of the cord i bought. 3 stacks of 6' x 4' x 16" I have burned 24/7 since last Tuesday and this is what's left. Now I'm a crack me a New Castle.
No problem, your question just provoked deep thought on how to word it, and that made the old noggin hurt. No thin skin here
Nice to see more and more local guys joining this forum. I'm in Beavercreek, not far from you. Welcome.
I was going to tell you to definitely look in your woods for morels this year. Between April 10 thru May 10. You should find some if there are 20 standing dead ash trees. Let me know if you need any help with the morels or the trees.
The dead ash is at a co-workers, I looked in my woods last year, didn't find any, my old man usually does pretty good at Sycamore Park. I'll post pics after I get out to check out the ash. Thank you.
