Follow 70 up or go up where your talking about or i go to the right 7030. There were quite a few 24-30 at the base firs just up the road. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I followed the map and there is a 7030 but it is way up the 70 line on the left. If you run up 410 east just past the 70 line is the 74 line on the right. Are you running up the 74? http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd486837.pdf
Should be on your right up the 70 just past the bridge turn. It might be the 7010? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
7010 is on the left with the bridge. I see what I'll need to do is just spend some time driving. I've got the 28" bar on the saw and will pick up a couple of tags and see what I can get. Looking forward to a nice drive in the woods. If I find some firewood I will make a couple of loads on the same day. I usually cut the big rounds down to liftable size instead of splitting. Plan to pick up my tags on the way up after 8am.
On Friday I managed to follow a road, the first one on the right up the 70 line that is a major shooting location, and the road was blocked by a mess of small stems knocked down by an avalanche or mudslide over the winter. There was enough there to fill up the truck but it took a lot of effort. Some camper came along and bought 4 rounds for 20$ from me so I got my permit money back! Saturday I drove for 5.5 hours and didn't find squat. Couple of 4" poles knocked onto the road. Came home totally empty and discouraged. I ran roads on both sides above Greenwater. Way up to government meadows even. Nothing. The permit lasts for two weeks so I might just try one more time but it seems that unless you have a known location of down trees that you are on a wild goose chase.
Much easier to scrounge off Craigslist. I have no problems getting all the wood I need and its already bucked. Just pull up and load. That and its free, except for your time and tools
Looks like you missed all the storm fall. They were like pickup sticks when i went up Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I guess so? You drive through fed forest on the highway up and see beautiful piles of 30+ inch fir laying there and I was hoping to just find one of those in the woods were it is legal to cut. I was apparently willing to drive hours to get a load so I suppose I should consider east of the mountains. Diesel fuel is not too expensive right now and the truck is pretty efficient so cost isn't the issue but time and then coming up empty is lame. That's plan b or c. I did some of that last year and had some luck but it is competitive. I have been checking daily and the sideboards are on the truck right now. I'm considering the 3-5 cord dump truck loads of butts. It's 100-150$ a cord though.
I was just east up on the forest service and theyre were plenty of down trees Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I was thinking of you up there and how there always seems to be more over the pass. Scheduled a free wood CL run tonight in the heat. Hope I don't get killed!
Hey Highbeam, ive got some maple in the back side of Renton if you are interested in some. 2 cord. They are cut 14-16. I'm picking up a cord Wednesday night. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Maybe, if you can ID maple please take a look at this thread I just posted. I might be up to my ears in maple or is it cottonwood? Western WA tree ID please, cottonwood or maple | Firewood Hoarders Club
Hey fellas rmarlatt4 and Highbeam, you guys pretty much did what I did last summer. Still trying to clean up my mess. I figured Id open this back up because we're kind of doing this loading of wood on CL or the general public. I know you guys are probably good with your methods on heading up those USFS roads. This year looks to be a good one with the snow pack being heavy. I reckon those roads are likely to be filled with downed trees. Never done this myself so you're introducing new info to me. I see you guys are likely to use your trucks for this sort of thing but trailers used by any of you? Got an suv that pulls well but Im curious if you're actually saying the rangers are on duty up there they'll make sure of this half-cord business or they'll just measure your truck or trailer before you go up there?
The national forest thing was a bust. I had better luck getting free wood from the city via cl. No trailer for me.
