Great pics of the stove and the Four Aces. Love that restaurant. It's my local connection for Moxie, and I can walk there on my lunch break. Moxie's not just soda, it's medicinal! ;) That's what I use to counteract the effects of all those saturated fats.

Good for you, hooking up yet another family with a great Woodstock stove. They'll be happy with it I'm sure.

Great thread Oldhippie . I'm happy they went with WS on their choice of manufacturers. The PH has a similar hybrid burn as the IS, and is most definitely more attractive. Geometry nice pics of the heart attack burger and the install. Thanks for sharing

Not the best burger in the world, ...I make that one. But the 4Aces has become my tradition. It's not for everyone.. a pretty earthy place that the locals eat who don't want to eat at a chain. It's not the best place to eat, but it's got the best vibe. I'm sure the real locals could point us in better directions.

My friends are super pleased with their stove so far. They are amazed at amount of heat and the small amout of wood it is taking them to heat the bighouse they have. They were using the stove that used to be there when they moved in. It was a leaky old box stove which just ate wood, and most heat went right up the chimney, but they got the place warm with it.

...funny story, when I got over there he had 2 thermometers on the chimney pipe and thought something was wrong as the single wall pipe was 150~200' lower than the stove temp, nd at that he had the stove temp reading on the top of the soapstone top stone. He thought the chimney pipe shuould be as high or higher than the stove. When I explained how the Cat works, and that the idea is, of course, to keep as much heat as possible in the stove and hence in the house, he had a Ah-Ha moment. :)

Now, they put in a load a wood a couple times a day and they're amazed at the heat they're getting, all through the house. They are also amazed it's so few sticks. I tell them wait till next year when their wood is actually seasoned a bit. They bought 4 seasoned cord and 4 green, ...but we know how that goes.

Number one thing that seems to hold true with the Progress that I've seen first hand, is that they are a breeze for people to learn to use and just get into a routine.

Good to know. That carries forward what we've seen with the other Woodstocks. Despite what some think, these cat stoves are easy as pie to run. Speaking of neighbors, a couple friends of my SIL have moved in pretty close by. I haven't seen the space they want to heat yet and don't know what kind of look they want, but I'll offer what help I can. They have a fireplace so I guess the first question is, free-standing or insert. I wish I was more familiar with some of the other stoves available, particularly tube stoves. I've never even run one. I've read about 'em on the forums, but there's no substitute for first-hand experience. I know the old Woodstocks pretty well, though, and cats work great in this climate...lotta low, long burns here.

You already found P&H Truck Stop, from what I recall of another thread of yours, so you're finding some of the good diners. If you'd like a recommendation for a place to eat the next time you're in the neighborhood, just let me know.

The PH's are amazing heaters, the room mines is sometimes gets too hot and I'm not even burning it too hot yet, usually burn it around 500 but a couple of the colder nights I got it up to 600.

Weatherguy, I am always sticking more wood in my Fv than I need this time of year. It's just habit, but I find when I just do a half full load, I can keep my temps down in that range that is more comfortable.

Sounds like you have good wood too, which is a great "problem" to have. :)

Sean, I am going to bug you crazy with this offer. I have another question. Do you know a guy that is a "good friend of mine" from the HDforums group. (Harley stuff) who goes by the nickname over there of Dawg. He's a Bradford police officer, and a great guy. ...might be part time, I'm not sure. He used to also be a parts guy at Granite State HD. Most knowledgeable guy you can meet when it comes to Harley parts and an all around great guy.

Sean, if you get down to Brattleboro, try the Grill on the Hill on Rt5 just after the rotary before you hit Brattleboro center. Great burnt brisket ends, AND the Catfish on dirty rice is to die for. :)

It's a small world, isn't it? I'm on the Bradford Public Safety Committee here in town, so I've gotten to know Chief Jeff Stiegler really well, but I don't know the part-time officers. I'll have to ask the Chief if he's Dawg or if it's another guy on the force. It's been a great way for me, a flatlander from CT, to get to know the community a bit better.

Thanks for the tip about the Grill on the Hill down in Brattleboro - makes me want to pile the kids in the car and head down today! My mouth is watering for both the brisket and the catfish.

That's actually what I'm doing today, half loads. I started burning some sugar maple I got 2 years ago, most of the bark fell right off, when I put a load in by the time I sat down on the couch it was an inferno, almost like the stuff was soaked in gasoline. I think I'll save that stuff for later in the winter and keep burning the ash I have. I might not even burn all the oak I have so I'll just save it for next year.

Sean, Grill on the Hill is only open April through October. They close for the winter and go to Florida. But do go, you will love the vittles! Lot's of great selection and you get your money's worth.

I work just down the road from there, and was going to get a pic of their snowed-in lot for you two, but no need now. I haven't been there a lot but have always had a very good meal from there.

Wow!! That looks gorgeous!! That is just an awesome setup, they are going to absolutely love that thing. I do.

    Looks familiar too! ;)

I've said this before, these PH's are pieces of art, and then add in the amazing burns and heat output. :)

They are extremely pleased. They had a party the other night with about 30 people and the stoves was center of attention. I have about 5 peoplethat want to do a road trip to Lebanon. Nothing sells a stove like a warm 2500sq ft house on a cold winter December night and the only heat is this box that is putting on a light show at the same time.

They are very pleased and having fun telling me about "Rolling flames". :)

Stove isn't even working hard yet. Wait till it gets cold.

Do you know what temp they have been burning? I haven't had to go over 500 except a couple of nights and I get plenty of heat.
