I talked to him about that, the cement foundation is what's under those tiles. So I'm not sure, but think he is okay. He wasn't sure what it was, but knew where it went. He just hasn't put it on yet, ...not sure he intends to.

Actually, I wasn't calling the Ultra a Civic. I was calling the Goldwing a two-wheeled Civic.

I loved the old Valks. The new one is a bastardized design that looks like hell. Worse than the Honda Rune that they put out back in '04.

Oh, you're right, but I generalized and just think they've all gone a little too hightech/highcost.

    Agree about the new Valk..

Sweeeeeeet! Another piece of artwork from Woodstock!

He's going to love the PH, I know I do.

Looks like a lot of snow up there? Didn't know there was that much snow up there, been kinda warm.

We had about 12' and very cold, and then a second smaller snow two days later that was a gentle soft fluffy 8 inches. Unfortunately over yesterday and today much of it has melted, and it is raining today. Not so good for the ski areas.

Glad to see you out here Machria! His install was MUCH less complicated than yours. :) I expect he may join this forum sometime soon. I'm sure he'll have a ton of questions for you experienced PH owners. He's down in NC now visiting his daughter/SIL and newborn grand daughter.

If it was 12 feet we'd be in big trouble.

I just got back from a visit to Steve's house. He is back from the Christmas visit to his daughter in NC, and he has gotten the PH going and between that and the solar he gets from lot's of good glass and a bright sun, the entire house warm, even though he doesn't have an ideal central setup, AND the furnace has not come on.

So we grab a cup of coffee and go into the stove room, get comfortable to visit a bit, and he has than baby cruisin!! This is the first time I've actually been sitting in front of a running PH. WOW!! does this puppy put out the heat. He was cruising with half a load of wood, stove top about 520'F and stove pipe around 300 8 inches you the stove. Waves of heat coming off of the stove.. and although the sunlight was preventing a light show, all of a sudden I realized he had secondaries glowing. (It's 10'F outside and we opened the sliding glass door to cool down the room a bit.. and it's a BIG room.)

    That heater CRANKS!!

Kind of like my Valkyrie when it gets over 3000RPM and hits that sweet spot on the power curve that will take me from 40mph to triple digits in about 3 blinks of an eye! Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!

Steve, what type of pipe is he reading from @ 300 degrees, single wall with magnetic thermometer or double wall flue probe?

Yes the PH does throw out the heat... I'm sure your friend Steve is very happy with his purchase, probably even surprised at the amount of heat and wood added... If he has the ash pan he's going to just love that as well...

Charlie, that's the top side of his small almost horizontal run to the SS liner, about 8 inches out using the single wall 24 gauge WS flue pipe and WS magnetic thermometer. it's just into the "okay" range of their markings.

He is feeling very positive about his purchase. (maybe an understatement) ...as he gets back to normal from traveling he may join us. I did send him this link and he was able to read it.. but used his full name and now wants to use a handle like most of us do.. so I think he needs to start a new account. (or can a moderator make that kind of change for him? anyone know?)

Thanks Steve. So he would be running around 600 on the internal flue gas temps being he's seeing 300 on the magnetic thermometer... Just comparing to what I see on my PH...

Yes that would be my understanding.

It was interesting, I could also hear a low hiss that was clearly airflow through the stove..it was clearly not green wood sizzle as it burns off as the wood was almost coaled at this point. My take on this was really good draft. Unfortunately I neglected to see what position the draft lever was in. Charlie, do you get that low level sound as well?

Again, I am very familiar by now with the radiant heat of the Fireview, but the radiant heat of the PH is remarkable both off the glass and also off the sides and top of the stove. The three top stones were putting out waves of heat! ...and I really don't think the PH was even working hard at this point. ...it was cruising. He also DOES have the ash pan, and I am totally jealous of that too.

Yes my stove has that faint hiss when the draft is closed all the way.. The PH really likes to pull air as I was told the Progress needs a good draft to run properly.. any issues were set ups with a poor draft... Well Steve if you ever want to get a PH, I'm sure you would get good money for your Fireview and it would sell quick... The Fireview is a sweet stove.. A class of it's own... More of a docile heater, nice control, and yet can really pump out the heat when you need it as well... We needed the PH but if we didn't I would have never given up the Fireview.. Servicing the cat, the simple controls and nice control, the Fireview has it all... One thing that I really like with the PH is that ash pan... I have a nice small hoe that I rake the coals back and forth with and into the pan the ashes go.. 3 ft handle steel handle so you can take your time raking... makes it easy... I believe 4 ash pan's full of ash fill my 5 gallon metal bucket... Gives you an idea of how much ash that pan holds.... I rake the coals to the front on the PH and put my wood load in the back, one piece by the coals , that makes for a nice fire... Your friend will find that no matter how much wood is placed into the PH , it will just always be putting heat out , constantly... Like a load size is really not that important...

It's really nice to see that the stove is working out well for him. It's a big investment and I spoke highly of WS the company and the PH specifically based on all I have read, but I admittedly didn't own one. Steve went up to the factory, came back with a positive feeling, did a bit more research and then made the choice. Nice to see it all come together.

His additional benefit is he has good natural solar heat in daylight, so the power of the PH just takes it all the way. I hope we get some of those -20' days so we can see how both my Fv and his PH do.

There's some cold coming this week... By the way the hissing noise is the air passing over the closed primary damper plates, like a reed... It has to be really quiet to hear it, just crack the draft a hair and it goes away... I don't think it's there all the time, depending on the draft that day I suppose..

The PH cranks like nothing I have ever seen. I don't have a lot of ownership experience, but have been around stoves, fireplaces and inserts all my life. I can say I have never felt this amount of heat come off a stove which was loaded with very little wood, and amazingly never really gets all that hot comparatively speaking. My top rarely breaks 350, most of the time it's 285 - 325, yet my house BAKES.

I know exactly the feeling Oldhippe currently has. I had the same feeling when I first experienced the first few fires in the PH. Amazement, wow, where the heck is all that heat coming from.

The wood makes a HUGE difference! I was near the end of a average size cruising fire late last night when I decided to make a fresh pot of Buffalo chili. The stove pipe was 220 (normal while cuisine), and the top was about 280, So I wanted fire it up a bit to start the large pot of cooking. So I grabbed a load of 2 year old really dry dead standing Cedar that I split earlier in the day, 20" splits by 6"x 4"(fairly large), and loaded up the stove about 3/4 on more hot coals that I normally load on.

Wel, it fired up BIGTIME, top hit 500 in minutes and my chili was boiling. I had to open a sliding glass door and a window, it was baking big time! It was in the 20's outside.

Pay attention to the wood you load! ;)
