Yes we're considering it as well, unfortunately it doesn't provide the looks my wife is looking for. If it wasn't for my wife wanting a white stove, that would probably be the stove I would buy.

It is our primary heat source, I run the furnace fan on occasion during extremely cold temps to even out the heat. Only run my furnace a little in spring and fall just to keep it in working condition. Well insulated house built in 1998 and located in central Iowa. The only issue when its super cold and I'm running it hard is some coal build up. Whole family like the stove and it's easy to operate. Easy stove to start a fire in too, it really takes off burning well.

If white is the big catch your looking at asummit in ivory, the aforementioned t5 or the quadrafire explorer 2 or 3. Surprised jotul doesn't offer a white enamel anymore.

BTW, if you do go with a PE stove, I would recommend getting the blower with it. It is pretty expensive, but it does help alot.

When sizing a new stove, is there any point that it can be too big?

    Yes.
Especially if it's in the room where you spend most of your time

Are you talking about it getting uncomfortably hot? Can't just do smaller fires?

Reason I'm asking is a buddy at work is building his house right now. 1500 sqft, 1000 sqft attic that may become a bonus room in the future. He's looking at a Jotul F600. 80,000 some aught btu, heats up to 2,600 sqft. Think that's too much stove for a living room with semi open floor plan?

Sounds like that model would be appropriate.......location and environment play a part.

With an open floor plan it should work fine. It's hard to get heat flowing to the separate rooms. Would probably work the best if the stove was close to the center of the house
