Well all my wood is in my back yard so pretty close to the house. I have never done anything and never had any problem with ants in the house. Except those little bitty ones and they didn't come from my wood. I split some Hickory yesterday that had a nest of black ants in it. They frantically tried to gather their eggs and larva and move them, but they were all going in different directions. I do worry about that situation but it has happened before and after they scatter I never see them again. My dad had black ants bad in his cabin on the lake and sprayed Chloridane all the time. Probably what killed him, but not the ants!
I quit paying close to 100$ /3 months to our local pest control. I bought a metal sprayer and the same spray the bug companies use and spray myself 4 times a year. I hardly ever see any bugs anymore. That and my guineas take care of everything else.
Great looking shed Joe. Pro tip: hose the dirt off those rounds before you put the saw into them. You'll save the chain and the dirt won't come into the house.
I guess I could have elaborated a little more but I will give it to you that was a pretty funny mistake
Joe, don't forget to also teach them the financial end of this. What would it cost for the oil or gas heat vs what it cost for the wood heat. In addition, what would it cost to keep the house at, say, 75 all winter using both methods and how much more comfortable wood heat is. I'll never forget the off and on cycles of furnaces which I hated.
One thing that works really great and you don't have to spray is terro ant dust. Just sprinkle it around the house and it will last up to 6 months even though it is out in the rain. Should you get some of those critters in the house, you can also use it in there to keep them into a small area and kill all of them right there. We've used this stuff for many years but we usually have to buy it direct from the company. That's because stores seem to want to carry their own brands but they don't hold up like terro does.
