    Agreed!
When I was looking to change out one of my wood burners some years back I had a heck of a time finding/getting access to the actual codes/regulations...specifically NFPA...I wanted to read it for myself instead of just relying on what I found second hand online.
Not too many chimney pros online willing to share advice regarding your personal specific chimney/stove install and operational issues...so I for one appreciate the several chimney pros that post here! :handshake:

And yes, I am aware that unclefess' post was made as sarcasm...but I really am not sure why the comment was felt to be necessary at all...if I was BHoller I don't think I would bother coming back to FHC after the way we have treated him as a whole since he has been here...its embarrassing, seriously!
There have been legitimate troublemakers/trolls on here (most now banned) that have been treated better...and I for one want the kinder/gentler FHC back that we had a couple years ago...a drama free oasis of fun and learning about common interests.
Kinda seems to me that general societal tensions have been spilling over around here more and more...and I hate it.
Since we are largely self moderated here, my 2 cents on this matter is to take it somewhere else if you feel the need to bash on people that are just trying to have a discussion and be helpful! There are plenty of other sites out there that are like the wild wild west, and you can say just about anything you wish there, go find one!
If I have overstepped, or said anything improper, I will just go ahead and tag Moderating myself so that they can delete or edit this post accordingly...and sorry, not trying to add to your (voluntary) work load guys (mods)

Thankyou for that. I know not everyone will follow code all of the time. And I know there are many I don't agree with myself. But I feel everyone should know what the codes are that effect them so they can make their own decisions. And any professional needs to follow them as close as possible.

Seem like you guys basically agree...jo says that its just not common practice (and/or practical) to build perfectly to code, and bholler said exactly, that's why I always insulate my liners...that's the gist of it...what else am I missing here?

    Your pretty close ;)
What I’m saying is we usually doubled one spec in order to cheat just a hair on the other. This is how real construction sometimes must be done. Especially nowadays when eggheads write codes with no understanding of the consequences of their theoretical exercises.

Keep the main wall of a chimney back 2 inches which is double the code. Let the sidewalls steal a little of that over safety and now you have a chimney that still does not require ugly trim returns to close a gap against the house.
It’s the way they should have written the code if they had any field time.
We see this everywhere in every day life if you look with a thinking mind. Authoritarians making rules with no real world experience.

I don't disagree with that at all. And it absolutely sounds like you are better than most. But it is really hard for me to confirm proper clearances and most I can check don't have them. That is why I insulate everything.

I linked to the code. That apparently wasn't enough.

Paste the “Resource” link.... in a thread. That effort directs a member there, to your Resource.
Further discussion can then be had in a separate thread if need be, or perhaps in a PM.
    Simple.

Why not let people see a discussion between professionals? Why is a discussion of codes looked at as a bad thing on this site? Like them or not they are here and they effect us all. So why not discuss them?

Yes things got a little heated there but I really don't think either of us have any hard feelings towards each other. I know I don't. And we pretty much came to an understanding.

That's a good point...while I do like the idea of posting links to resources, if all replies consisted of only that, I think most people would only make it about 3 replies into a thread...
