Raised seat, riser blocks on the pedals, and put a power steering column from an old Caddie with that extend feature (wuts that called again?)........helps ta' see what you're about to tear up. Oh, and the mad scientist grin on yer face is all that matters. it's alive frankenstein at DuckDuckGo
Seems they're pulling back on one big storm and talking now that it may be 2 small ones. The weather guessing rolls on...
Update... the tractor mounted stiff arm riggin' may never make it. It really would have to be a telescopic arm, in order to be viable. Just getting the yard clear, around the house would be enough... this first rig I made works, but... having to move back and forth away from the roof... waaaaaay too much time & work to clear 3x the space. I haven't given up on the telescopic idea though. Prolly won't be this wintah...
I never thought of the yard area! I'm leaving what's on the roof there for now, but seeing the possibility of rain later in the week does have me concerned. There's a big azz sponge on the roof right now!
This place (26 x 44 ranch) isn't insulated well at all above the ceiling. No easy access to it either... so, we live with it. Means that snow hasta come off asap, 4-5' up from the eaves. And once that #^*@%# rain dumps on top of whatever snow is left, we have a concrete roof... Oh well. I survived the rakin this monin. Went up about 10' from the eaves. Good to getr done...
Cut a hole in the ceiling in a closet. Make a small door or removable panel there. Access via stepladder.
We had a hole in the closet like you mentioned. but it was a tight fit for me. So, not liking that or wanting to empty the closet out just to climb up, I put a pull down stairs in the hallway ceiling, I can walk in the center of the attic without hitting my head. So I built some shelves and stored a whole lot of chit up there. I also put down some plywood to walk on, and I added another 6 inches of open faced insulation to the rest of the floor area. I also increased the size of the vents to stabilize the temps and prevent humidity from building. Small investment, but big time results.
Only if I don't rake the snow off. I experienced the 2 AM wake up, years ago, by my father. Water was pouring down into the kitchen from ice backed up on the roof. Before I was even awake, he and I were on 2 ladders hackin away at the ice, in the pouring cold rain, with a couple of hatchets. Left an impression...
I get those ice melt hockey pucks at the hardware store. just toss them up on the roof to control those ice dams My son can toss those up on the roof. I'm not able to walk on snow or any uneven surface.
Yes, this happens here as well, especially where there is a small valley. I try and keep the eves clear, and around back (no sun) I have that heat coil which I turn on when it gets thick and it really works great and i highly recommend it. In the past, I've purchased those pantyhose (which no one even looks at ya funny because it's normal these days ) and fill them with rock salt (I have to re look it up to see the kind is safer for shingles) right into the valley and move it accordingly. Works great as well.
