Yeah, the 4.6 yota v8 replaced the 4.7 v8 a number of years ago. Yota was pretty low on the hp estimate for the 4.7. the 4.6 is a more advanced engine. 301hp and 329 tq for the 4.6 in the GX ( Lexus version of the 4runner, and it comes with a 6spd tranny) it's no slouch.
Yea I wondered cause they say it's like 275HP in my 04 sequoia, non VVT 4.7. It sure does not feel like it has another 100hp over my old chevy k10 that's rated at 175. It has more power yes but like 60% more, NO. It even has more of an advantage since it has at least one more gear in the transmission.
I really like the GX but not sure I can get on board with that especially if the Audi is influencing your expectations.
The gx, as well as all Lexus with the spindle grill, it's just too garish for me. My Audi has been great to me. It's been as reliable as our v8 4runner. That said, we're really not looking at the GX, or any suv. I was just referencing the 4.6 v8 as it's available in the tundra. 310 hp, 327 tq , 6 spd. That doesn't compare well to the 2.7 ecoboost at 325 hp and 400 tq, with a 10 SPD.
Toyota's are thirsty. Ever since they went away from the little tiny toyota truck (Hilux) they have drunk fuel. They still do. I think that's what all die hard toyota fans hate about them. The other manufacturers have begun to adress this and toyota is still guzzling 15mpg.
The 4.7 v8 in our 4runner is pretty good mpg wise. It gets over 20 mpg on the freeways, usually 22 mpg if not towing. A co-worker just went from a Tacoma to a 5.7 crew cab 14 tundra. He said it gets about 18 mpg. The current 5.0 Ford gets a little better mpg, and has even more HP and TQ than the yota 5.7.
I really struggled with that question when deciding what to replace my 2500HD extended cab 8.1L/Allison with. In the end, I decided on something smaller with better creature comforts that could still tow the boat and single axle dump trailer. Sounds like you are going just the opposite way
That is amazing mpg. The sequoia suck for some reason. Sure there heavier but not that much to make you think it should go from 22 to 15. I can get 17mpg without AC and on back highways almost no stops. I towed the pontoon to the lake 4 days over the 4th weekend. Got 7mpg!!! It gets 8mpg towing my trailer with tractor, weighing just 5000 pounds total trailer and stuff weight. And it's a small one so not much wind resistance. A guy on the FD has a new Tundra. Not sure of its a 17 or like a one year old used 16 but he said it does pretty good like 16 or so. But he just got rid of his eco boost and that's odd he would say it does good. He likes the space in the tundra said it tows more level with his big boat . Reason he rid of the EcoBoost is that the AC compressor connection kept burning off , yes it was under warrenty but he said it was almost out and he didn't want to have to put new AC in on his own dime, so he dumped it.
The f150 we get will have all of the creature comforts of a luxury suv, and actually probably more, but still tow and haul like I need it to. I'd be giving up nothing. It's possible that my wife and I could be both getting new vehicles this year. If that's the case, I could get a sportier, even better mpg car, and she could get the truck as she doesn't have to drive as much for work as I do. The only caveat would be that the truck would have to be white. I can deal with that. I can use it for hauling whatever, whenever, but I would save more on my commute in gas $. Over the last number of years, we've not had a vehicle that's great on fuel. I sold my 5.0 convertible to get down payment on our house in 2008. Then I had a lifted Grand Cherokee, and after that the Audi.
Finally pulled the trigger on a new truck. The only part I don't like is the payment. Boy does this thing pull like a freight train.
If your new f150 has the same creature comforts as the super duty then you'll love it. On thing I find funny is my 350 king ranch has vinyl flooring which is the premium flooring option. My old 91 f150 had nothing premium about it and it had vinyl floor.
My 03 F250 XLT Lariat Edition came with factory leather seats. When I bought it 2 years ago they were pretty trashed. I took the seats out and took them to a local leather shop. So the lady asks me if I want to go all leather, all vinyl, or back to the factory combo? I says "what"? She then proceeds to show me that the factory "leather" seats were actually 80% vinyl...one small patch of perforated leather in the center of the seat cushion (about 1 square ft.) and the same on the seat back cushion! Leather seats...HA! I ended up going with all vinyl because I could hardly tell the difference with the material she used...that, and I could go tu-tone (like the King Ranch seats) for low $...it turned out really nice. Point is, maybe since they seem to think they can substitute vinyl for leather on seats, then they can do it on the floor...so its kinda like having leather flooring...that's premium, right?!
Yeah, our old 1980 bronco had rubber flooring too. We ordered it that way. Me being one of 3 boys, it was a smart choice. All of the f150's I've looked at have carpeting. We'll get good floor mats, especially in the back, as we have 2 Labradors. I was driving behind a new 17 silver 150 with the sport appearance package. It was very sharp looking.
