Yes, they drove it to my house 30 miles away. 2 retirees. With a Chase car Nice guys but the one guy left my truck in neutral when he got out of it. No brake applied... At least I know he drove it, like a grandpa. I guess the keyless ignition threw him off. All good as my driveway is flat. So I negotiated the delivery, after a full detail and not a rushed one on a super busy Saturday, and a full tank of gas. It's got the big tank so that's something. I figured by giving them all day Monday they would clean it up really nice. I was right. It's shiny. Wayyyyyyy back I worked as a lot manager at a decent sized dealership. That entailed parking cars, and cleaning them. The thing we hated the most, were days you were rushed, and impatient sales people. By telling my sales guy to have them just do it sometime on Monday, he got a much more thorough cleaning for his sale/ my truck. They showed up about 35 or so minutes late as they couldn't locate a front plate holder. Guess Canada doesn't need front plates. It's all good. Ok, here are some pics. I'll get better ones tomorrow in the light. I'll admit that I thought the remote tailgate drop was a bit much, but I used it to bring the new battery for the 4runner from the parts store. Had my wife hit the remote release from the fob and I just set the battery on the tailgate. Slick.
It depends how bad the swirls are. You want to don't want to use something too aggressive. Meguiars M205 or 105 is can be hand or machine applied. It is not a fun job polishing paint with a machine. It will be a very long job doing it by hand. I'd recommend purchasing a D/A polisher. Before using either of these products you will need to wash and clay bar the vehicle. Before doing a paint correction I recommend getting a good wash mitt, two gallon buckets, and grit guards. When you are washing, if you drop the mitt, it needs washed. I also wash mine after each use. To dry I use a spray a quick detailer on the paint, then use a waffle weaved micro fiber towel. I also use a electric leaf blower to blow dry crevices, or the whole vehicle sometimes then touch up with the micro fiber towel. Here is the 2 bucket method. One thing he does not mention is do not apply pressure with the wash mit. I don't put my hand in the wash mit. I hold it by the outside. When I am doing a hood, roof, or trunk, I hold up on the wash mitt letting the weight of the wash mitt glide across the paint so I am not applying pressure and scratching. One the sides I touch them very lightly. Also to keep swirls to a minimum, don't wash your vehicle today and drive it around then wax it tomorrow. It will have dirt on it and when you wax it will create swirl.
just noticed you said the truck came from Canada ???? if it did get under it and take a really good look around. The stuff they use on roads is terrible. Mine came from there and there was a "dust" like coating on everything under the truck it is a "salt" type product. I spent a lot of time rinsing it out of every where.
Sounds like what coats my truck 6 months outta the year and why we have them undercoated. salt sucks!
It depends on where in Canada it came from. Out West they just use sand and rocks...went through a windshield a year out there. Out East we use a lot of salt.
Truck came from Ontario. Far southern Ontario, iirc. Thanks for the heads up ironpony woody5506 and Hammy
Here's a couple. Tacos were calling, I couldn't disappoint them. I also had to get a few daylight pics for the FHC fam. I started it from my desk 10 minutes before I left work. It was all warm when I got into it.
I'm not saying people don't make this up but as a person with a few college level statistics including graduate level statistics you know that you don't have to make them up, you can for I use a mequires product , I think that's it. I will have to look at what it is later today. I like it a lot. Took the haze and minor scratches out of my Toyota's. I have early 00s ones before Toyota cleared their white so the paint will haze up on you if you don't keep it buffed and waxed.
Horkn I noticed you had a truck tag on it. Do all trucks in your state have truck tags and do you have it registered for a high gross weight? In VA you get a truck tag if you register for more than 10k.
Yeah, we have truck plates for any pick up. I think even ridgelines get them. I know old rangers and S10's had/have them too. Every once in a while, you'll see truck plates on an suv. We once had a 1 ton Chevy and a 3/4 ton Chevy not horribly long ago, as well as a couple full size ford and chevy 1/2 tons. The ranger we had was truck plated, but all the bronco 2's we had. ( A lot of them over the years) were all registered as cars. There's some rule here about trucks over 8500 gvwr, but we've never had one that fits that.
Interesting. Pa has truck plates and has weight class stickers for pickups over half ton. I don't think anyone really knows or cares about them...my weight class sticker was in the console for 16 years instead of next to the inspection sticker on the windshield.
Horkn ..... this afternoon just reminded me, which I did before I left work today.... Make sure to keep your moonroof tracks cleaned and lubed.... Plus lube up your rubber around the window... and exercise it periodically... They have a tendency to stick and then forcing it will break something.
I was actually going to use a silicone spray on a rag and wipe all of the sliding parts, rubber, etc down with that. I get a tiny squeak once in a while from the closed roof. I've done this to our 4runners moonroof and my Audi's.
