Basod, what insert is that? I know from the lopi we have up north ( gotta be 10 years now with it, maybe more) that those new style inserts/ woodstoves are so much more efficient. That lopi was some serious $$, but well worth it in the long run.
Yeah, me and a buddy rented a house on Little Cedar Lake for a couple years but since I didn't have a family background of hoarding and didn't start until I hit my 30s, I couldn't tell you what kind of trees were there. Kinda wish I'd had the family history, maybe I wouldn't have been trying to burn 3-month-stacked Red Oak all those years.
It's a Hearthstone Clydesdale. Not a catalytic stove so not as "efficient" as some other stoves on the market, but way better than an open hearth with glass doors. I looked at Lopi's when I was stove shopping and it would have stuck out too far (clearance issue). The Clydesdale wasn't cheap either ~$2300 5 years ago.
Well, I cleaned out the squirrel cage fan on the fireplace blower today. BIG difference, in a good way as far as the amount of air movement. I got the lr so warm tonight that I had to take my fleece off. Just burning elm rounds at 28° tonight. Off to help my buddy cut and haul out more logs from the woods tomorrow afternoon.
Well, we cut and hauled 2 trailers of elm out of the woods for my buddy. He said he's good for this year now, but I am going to see if we both can help more out for next year or later. Each trailer full when stacked tight is more than a face cord. After using my friend saw with a sharp chain, I realize I need a new chain on my still 029. This was a cheap small poulan craftsman with a sharp chain. Any recommendation on where to get a new chain, what brand, etc? Also, I have a 16" bar and chain. Thinking of going to an 18" setup. My buddy buys chains and bars from baileys.
Where you bought the saw. Stihl dealer. Or you can go to Bailey's online. There are many places to buy so you can pick and choose but it is still good to support your local saw dealer. It may help if you have problems later. Also, are you sure you need a new chain or just a good sharpening?
Where the saw was bought is too far too travel. I'll see where there is a local stihl dealer here. I'm sure there's plenty around as I'm about 10 miles north of Milwaukee The chain would probably get in good shape with proper sharpening. I just know this chain has seen a lot of cords of wood, and until this fall it was technically my parents saw. I know mom was never good with keeping the chain out of the dirt. I'm reading the sharpening tutorials on fhc.
I've wondered about those Woodland Pro bars and chains but have yet to buy any. Do they hold up well?
