So how well does the backup assist work? Is it actually practical if you know how to back up a trailer ? Or is it more for someone that doesn’t know how to back up?

Well, I know how to back a truck up. So there's that. The rear camera is very helpful on these trucks because you can't see crap behind you unless the trailer is 15' long and or 6' + wide.

The blind spot assistant with the trailer is very nice though. TBH, I haven't used the backup assistant yet, but I will try it out sometime soon. On those short or narrow trailers, I bet it's the bomb. Hauling a 4x8 behind a full size truck, you can't even see them, so it doesn't matter how good you are off you can't see it.;)

I only tow a couple of times a year, but will give my impression... Will defer to anyone who uses it more often, though. Backup Assist works. It screws me up every time, because you get used to turning the steering wheel left to turn the trailer to the right while backing. Backup assist makes it so the trailer goes the way you turn the knob, just as if you were going forward. That being said, it is pretty neat. If you learn to back without it, you'll probably never want to be without it. It's kind of like a backup camera. I never really thought that I needed one, but once I got one, I would sure miss it if I didn't have it. In another generation, no one will be able to back up a trailer without it, just like people can't find their location without GPS anymore.

The real strength of it, IMO, is that if you let go of the wheel, it works to keep you backing up straight. It's eerie to put it in reverse & watch it move the wheel for you, hands free. You don't have to touch it unless you want to turn the trailer. If you have a long, straight driveway, you'll be amazed with how it works.

Probably the most useful for the trailer you own, as you have to put a checkerboard target on the trailer and back a few times for the system to "learn" the trailer and how it turns. Once it's learned & saved, you can do away with the target. Less handy if it's having to always learn new trailers.

In the screen between the speedometer and the tachometer, there is an engine tab that shows you percent left until oil change. I think it starts flashing the prompt upon startup at 10% remaining. Don't recall if you have to hit a button to hide the prompt, as I've only seen it once, due to my oil change schedule.

So my wife should be able to back the boat into the water without hitting the dock or going off the ramp!

I think most newer vehicles have the oil change monitors now...

That's who did mine, Ziebart, but I don't pay a dime every year to get it redone under their warranty. Maybe it's changed since you had it done or my location is different, I will say I hate dealing with them on the business end of things because they are extremely disorganized but as far as their actual under coat I'm pretty pleased with it. My thoughts are the longer the vehicle goes without something for rust protection and the more it rusts up, the less effective something like undercoat is.

Now I will agree with you that I hate working on pretty much anything that does have undercoat on it particularly at my job where I often refuse to blast auto parts that have been undercoated because it just contaminates everything. There's exceptions where I will though or if its trace amounts left from what I had to scrape off. There's no quick easy way to remove that crap.

Nice ride Loon share the details on it! I which I didn’t need the crew cab! I’d just get the extended cab and the longer box!

That's why I bought it. Haven't used it yet though. She'll drive out and park the truck and trailer no problem while I wait at the dock with the boat, and dogs.
