Here is the clutch at Salem Supply. Only site with pictures. Nobody seems to supply specifications. My dead clutch has a 1" bore/shaft, 1/4 " key way, 4"pulley or sheave, About 5" OD clutch housing and 3-1/8" front to back of assembly. Cheapest direct replacement I have found is$742 at Generac parts or a possible replacement on e-bay at $250. I have inquired on the e-bay one as to torque specs, RPM to engage, HP rating etc. but cant find such specs on the DR unit. still working on it. May just sell the unit as is.
What am I missing?? A fire extinguisher ruined the clutch? I had one brought to me after being submerged, running, in wet concrete and hosed out and it wasn't ruined.
Yeah post a couple pictures. I would also agree , a little detective type work and you can probably get to the bottom of the problem as to where it came from and where to get parts. Is a used one maybe another option?
I was wondering if a place like McMaster Carr , MSC or maybe Grainger might have something. All are industrial supply stores. Just going on the thought that a clutch might be pretty much standard for other applications. A 1 inch shaft is a one inch shaft no matter what it is on , the chipper won't know the difference where it came from. I know it has to be the same but you get what I am saying. ( not trying to say you don't understand this, no insult intended )
Agreed. I can't imagine it can't be cleaned up. At the most, bearings pulled and replaced, but they should be sealed. Russ, can you pull this clutch and fully clean it up? What is making it un-usable?
It was on some type of skid mounted high pressure pump. Someone drove a muck buggy of concrete into it and flipped over on top. Stuck solid!
Too late! A Friend with a small, shoestring, yard service came over and saw the machine and had to have it as is. He does all his own repair. We came to a mutually advantageous agreement that took into account friendship and my huge acquisition cost. My neighbor the Doctor is tickled that it is going to someone who will be putting it to good use. I may look into a smaller machine with flails that will handle slightly smaller stuff and reduce it to mulch. I had already pressed the clutch apart but the bearings were shot and friction surfaces toasted. There was some metal to metal contact and I would have had to have the clutch drum resurfaced. I really think the e-bay unit would fill the bill. I will give all my research to my buddy. Thanks all for comments and suggestions!
My Buddy who got the chipper, purchased the e-bay clutch and a new gang belt. I went over the other day and we ran a bunch of 4" and smaller rhododendron and Fir limbs through it and I gotta say it is a BEAST! The self feed is adequate but not perfect. Works better on the 1" and larger stuff than on spindly, leafy, small stuff. Does not pulverize but then it is a chipper not a shredder. He had to do quite a bit of work on the knife and it is near it's minimum but wear items are part of maintenance. The wear plate that sets the knife clearance was reversible so no problems there. Almost wish I had kept it but have no use for a bigger machine like that. For him it reduces the bulk of all the limbs and brush that he generates in his yard care business so he can transport to the dump efficiently. He also gets a lower disposal price. I guess everybody made out OK. My neighbor got rid of a headache and gained room in his garage. I made a nice fee for little or no effort and my buddy got a needed piece of equipment for a cheap price and a little work.
