You can't hurt that motor as long as you "Change oil" Every year!!! My Daughters 2005, 250ex is the same motor and she ran the snot out of it!!! "My opinion" is the LUCAS 10W40 ATV oil. It's in all our ATV's and never once had an issue.
Many engines are very durable with clean oil and air filters...especially if not abused. Abused is different than "run hard"...but some engines (most Honda's) will take abuse pretty well too...
Nice ATV! Those little Honda's are very dependable machines. Any ATV that still runs certainly beats pushing a wheelbarrow!
Nice ride you picked up there. All our ATVs are pre 2000. My neighbor has a big 4 wheel drive ATV but I'm still running my old beater '89 Yamaha Blaster thats been piped and ported years ago. It is due for a top end refresh and I'll probably go a little milder this time since I don't ride like I used to. As far as tires go, I'm a HUGE fan of any brand of deep chevron pattern tires. They get it done out in the woods for pulling logs, trailers, and fun. When I was pulling the old 1200 lb. lawn roller with my Blaster, the chevron pattern is the only tire that would keep a grip in the low wet spots without spinning out. I tried several different tread patterns over the years cuz one of our old neighbors used to race and I would put on different tires of his to try out. Most of them might have worked OK on the track but in the woods, the chevron patterns win every time. Just my experience, probably not a very scientific test... LOL
Thanks for all the input! I cleaned the carb today and it runs like brand new. It hauled a wagon load of old straw goat bedding like nothing was there. And of course the heavy cooler full of beer and water haha. I’ll have to look into the swamp lites, I do live along a creek in a valley and it gets very muddy here. Has everyone stayed with the stock tire size or did you go larger, to say, a 25” tire? I know lighter is better but just curious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Watch out so you still have clearance. I put a little bigger ( taller 25") tires and wheel combo on my bayou and I can't run the rear v bar chains with the bigger rear tires, the chains hit the footrests. So I use the old rims are tires for chain use
Has everyone stayed with the stock tire size or did you go larger, to say, a 25” tire? I know lighter is better but just curious. [/QUOTE] Glad you got it running good... The taller tires have some pro's and con's although the difference of an inch or two is not going to matter a whole lot. They will give you a bit larger contact patch with the ground which may be benefitial if the engine is powerful enough where you lose traction to the ground a lot. They will give you a bit more ground clearance. They will give you a bit more speed on the top end if the engine is powerful enough to get it there. They will take away a bit of bottom end torque and pulling power on lower power engines. As mentioned earlier, there may be clearance issues, especially if you use it in the snow with chains. smaller diameter tires are quicker hole shots generally. larger diameter tires are faster top end speed generally. Changing tire size typically doesn't change the performance enough for it to be a factor in "work a day" quads that are general utility vehicles. Clearance issues would be my major concern. pricing can come into play on some less common tire sizes. Mrs. Welder Dave's new rear skins look like they will 'git it' in the mud, snow. and woods.
"Stay stock"! less work on the motor, gearbox and drivetrain all around. Even though it's not 4x4 it's engineered and clearances are made as such, be wise and stay stock. "my opinion"...
Yes they do!!! It's an all around super tire. They've been in rocky areas and even do well in sand! Snow and mud are a breeze, they self clean quickly. I've had many ATV's over the years and several brands of tires. The Deestones are reasonable and work well!
Do they tear up the yard much? Our atv needs some new skins as well, I was eyeing the Kenda's as they're very similar to what was stock. I require traction in the woods, but hate having the yard all tore up.
Well, I'll just say it like this... Yes! If you have a solid grass pack and your very slow and don't turn then you'll be ok, but who the Hell does that? If your worried about tearing up grass other than a trail, "do not" buy either of those tires I mentioned!!! They bite like crazy and the swamp lites are awesome!!! As stated earlier, the Swamp witches are a "very good tire" all around but I recommend either. My opinion, the swamp witches do better in snow out of everything we've ridden in.
Our atv spends more time off the hill than on it. I'd love to have one solely for the hillside, but haven't been looking for any deals. Thx for the info.
I sure use use mine a lot more than I ever thought I would. Will get into places the side by side won’t go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have bought many tires from e-bay but I also bought two sets of tires from here. I got "Great" deals from this place and if I remember shipping was free. They also give you a very good analysis of the tire your looking at. You can get the ITP swamp lites here, but I don't think the swamp witches. I got my Daughters swamp lites here. (edit) I just looked back at my e-bay purchases, I did get the swamp witches on e-bay for my wifes ATV. ATV Tires and UTV Tires at Pure Offroad
Looks CLEAN! I’ve had a atv since I was a kid. They went from being a toy to one of my favorite tools. Get yourself a small trailer and you will be set.
Yes, they are nice!!! I had a CG friend had them on his, they looked a little different. Maybe a different year or size, he has a Grizzly.
