Yamalube is a good oil as well, a little outdated(it was one of the best in its day) but using sled oil/marine is much much cheaper.

You can switch back n forth it doesn't matter but even switching oil brands and time of year you may have to return a saw.

I mix everything at 32:1 and tune according. It doesn't hurt it and I have extra oil. I am useing amsoil right now but I think will try semi syn Lucas when I use the rest of this quart up.

You don't want to use a marine TWC3 oil in a saw. It's water cooled oil and not for air cooled stuff. Since air cooled runs at higher temps it may not protect as the saw needs that is designed to run on air cooled oil.

Yep! But you can safely substitute in HD30wt oil if you like mixed at 16:1. Just keep an extra plug handy and make sure to De-carbon the engine every 20 hours of run time:rofl: .

All very helpful, well minus the special concoction recipe from my brother's previous fish's owners sisters mother's brother in law's buddy with that weird tooth comment, I was looking forward to seeing how skunk pizz smells when burned 5:1 in a saw!!!
In all seriousness I'll be switching the 660 to husqvarna XP, got almost a full tank of syn in it now after I burn some of that up I'll re fill and be good to go!

I thought that newer oil (twc3)was a low or no ash oil designed to keep 02 sensors clean in the new fangled two strokes, as well as meeting epa regs for water use?

I'm sure it is. But it's still a water cooled engine that will run cooler than a saw which is air cooled. My boats have water surrounding the cylinder. Even here in the south in the lake the water is still in the 80s. 80 degree water will absorb way more heat than 90F air surrounding a cylinder.

It's not brand new but my 91 150 looper (johnson) cylinder hear runs about 140f at idle and will run cooler than that wide open or so They say from increased water volume. ..I just can't be back there with a temp gun wide open.hahaha

I would generally agree with you, but.... I use an an oil that meets or exceeds the specification.... I broke my 461 in on it and still use it........yes that's right a twc3 spec oil......

There have been MASSIVELY technical discussions on two stroke engine temp on other forums.
Firstly operating head temp has little or nothing to do with the oil designation.(I use legend snowmobile oil in -40 air on a liquid cooled sled with (ect or engine coolant temp in the 120-130s)

The head temp only tells part of the story, what you really need to know is EGT.

    But I digress..

I haven't looked, but I'm sure there are other twc3 oils that meet or exceed chainsaw standards.

    ZX-2R | Legend Performance Inc.

You can Google search test for the oil as well(it's one of the best performing 2stroke oils), bobistheoilguy has decent info on oils.

They may meet some standard to claim it but is it the correct oil?

You can use what you want and if you have had good success with it great. Maybe some of the information we talk about is from 30 years ago before synthetic and new tests and info has not got around.

I still won't use a TWC3 oil in my air cooled stuff just like I won't go the other way. Maybe one day there will be a generic 3 stroke spec.

What muddies the water is all the new water cooled two stroke stuff that didn't really exist years ago. I mean 2 stroke land stuff, like ATVS and snow mobiles. That stuff use to all be air cooled.

As others have basically stated that new oils are getting better and better.
It's almost hard to go wrong.

Oils these days are way better than 20 or 30 years ago. Im currently running stihl ultra, but ran redline snowmobile oil for 10 cords last year.

This all goes back to the manual, If you stay within the manufacturers suggestions and correct mixtures, you can't go wrong. "IF" TWC3 states it is air cooled compliant on the bottle then you can hold their feet to the fire if you have an oil related problem.

Oil related problems are almost impossible to prove. Just to many variables and easy to blame the user error. Improper tune, fuel ratio, air leak ect. Getting a manufacturer (oil or saw) to pay for repairs is almost impossible.

Agree, you have to prove it. "but" I did see an oil analysis on a diesel once and the manufacturer recommended a specific weight, when they determined the oil he was using was to heavy, he lost a court case and had to pay his own repairs. $$$ Detroit did not screw around with this guy. And I agree, to take it that far is basically silly for a few bucks. My take/suggestion was just follow your book!
