Did he in fact sell you mismatched chains and a bar? Or were you actually not quite balancing the saw correctly?

With a properly sharpened chain the saw should self feed through the wood, if you have to lean on the saw the chain is not right. What exactly did he do to the bar? Sounds like you had the wrong gauge chain for the bar.

dealer replaced bar and chain - problem gone. new extra chains for problem bar or combination - should be able to swap out for correct size for new bar, least wise that's how I would work it. making those extra chains you have shorter for new bar would be a pia time wise for dealer provided they are they same spec chain. so look at drive links or on the extra chains somewhere for mfg markings and compare to new bar and chain combo to see if same. On stilh chain the marking on drive link is gauge ( 6 = .063) on tie strap or cutter it will be a # an some letters ( 4R = .404 pitch Full Chisel- note stilh doesn't call it full chisel they have there own name hence the r or rm) Carlton a1 is .375 pitch A3 is .404 I forget how they indicate gauge. I just mic the drive spurs most of the time - saves me headaches looking it all up. Same for the pitch(center to center of 3 rivets distance) most of the time i can tell with out micing except for that dang .325 stuff but that is almost always a .063 gauge drive link

The only way I would know for sure would be to put the original bar and chain back on.

My 076 with the 42" bar and chain I always let the weight of the saw take the saw through the cut.

Well, you know what they say about blind squirrels.;)

Glad the problem is resolved, aside from the short bar situation.

Or post up pictures of the i.d. marks on the original bar and chains. Lots of folks here will be able to tell you if they are a apples v. oranges.

all the numbers you need for a replacement chain are stamped into the bar although deciphering the sequence is sometimes a bit challenging . a little searching of the electronics will resolve that though.

The 73 on the drive link means it's .058" gauge chain, which matches that bar.

    3/8 is the chain pitch.

.058" is the gauge aka the thickness of the drive link

119 is the number of drive links on the chain, this determines the length of the chain.

D009 is large Husky mount bar pattern.
