The 272 is my favorite of the Husqvarnas I own. It’s a more visceral experience than the 371, but Im a fan of rubber av. Always preferred to be more connected to what the chain is doing.
Dad decided his chainsaw running days are over. He dropped this off yesterday. Said if he needed chainsaw work he will call me. Neglected, dirty and dull as a spoon but fired right up.
So, the 500 and 261 went out to play together today. The 500 got first dibs and despite careful consideration, cutting my wedge and a nice back cut, the tree pinched the bar. My wedges would not open the gap. So, after removing the head from the bar, the 261 came in and bailed out big brother. I was pretty sure my nice new 20" Sugihara bar was going to be toast. However, making a new cut about 6" above the stuck bar allowed the tree to drop and pop off the stump above where the bar was stuck. So, day saved. That said, I am really happy with the inboard clutch on the Stihl saws. I had something similar happen a couple years ago with my 562XP Husky and there was no way I was getting the head off the bar while the bar was pinched in the tree. Anyways, all's well that ends well. Got the tree bucked, split and stacked. I must say, the 261 is growing on me more and more. I love the 500 for the big base cuts but the light weight of the 261 is so nice when you get further up the tree. Ended up being about .6 cord of red oak. Not bad for a days work.
We had some colder temps this past week and weekend along with a nice wind to keep the mayflies at bay. So, later in the week I dropped a decent yellow birch along with a few smaller cherry's and and a smaller yellow birch. Then Friday I went out and dropped and bucked two more decent sized red oaks. Prob about 18-20" DBH, quite tall, and forest trees so not much crown and very few knots. One took a few 10" red maples as collateral damage. Split all on Sat while my wife and daughter took trips with the ATV and trailer to stack. Finished stacking solo on Sunday and chipped the slash. (Gave the girls the day off for Mother's Day...) All in all, ended up with another 2+ cords C/S/S. The on deck position behind the woodshed is filling up nicely. I'd say I'm a hair under 3 cord so almost half way set for the next shed refill spring of 2023 which will get burned during the 24-25 season... Oak #1 Oak #2 Stacks behind shed:
That's actually where a second trunk lead was growing and had gotten snapped in a storm so I cut it down. It's funny you mention it because now that I look, it's certainly an interesting illusion making it look like the notch is in the existing tree... Anyways, the cutting has been beneficial two fold. First, I'm working on my 2-3 year plan. Second is, everything I drop is getting us further toward our westerly mountain view. The sunsets are getting prettier with every tree that comes down. A few more years of free heat and we get a free view...LOL
Nice job, good trees, great view and wife and daughter willing to help, what more could a man want...
