Didnt they tell you to plug the vent and get the green venting cap? Or was that someone else? Heck after all these vents you could of bought you a new chiacom handle off ebay! I got a new one in stock I think I have $28 in.

Wow is that a beauty

I epoxied a 262XP tank vent once...... sold the saw (with an appropriate disclaimer), so I'm not sure of the results long term.

Just got home from work a little bit ago. Dumped some gas in it and it fired on the third pull and stayed running. It idles well but just like guido mentioned it bogs out and dies if you try to give it some throttle. It will sit there and idle well though for quite some time. Piston looks really good also. Can't wait to tear into it this weekend.

Be sure to keep us updated as you go through this saw - take lots of pictures! I'm eager to learn more about saws so I can better maintain my own and I learn a lot here from reading and watching posts like these.

I know Guido prob tried? But try turning the H screw out about a 1/2 turn?

Or better yet, run it all the way in (seat the need . Making sure you count the revolutions (# of turns). Till it stops. Then back the H screw out the same exact # of turns as you ran it in. Then back another 1/2 turn. Then start and try to blip the throttle. Maybe do the same with the L and back it out a 1/4 turn more.

Is this an 029? Or a 290? It has limited screws right? Unless he pulled them already.

Thanks for the info, I will give this a try tomorrow if I get off in time. Sitting here right now reading through the carb adjustment section to refresh my memory. I was surprised with how easy it quickly fired up.

Definitely a MS290 and I don't think he has done anything with the screws

Glad the saw arrived safely. I bought this saw at least 3 years ago and put a new Stihl chain on it, replaced the clutch cover and gave it 2 new bar nuts and then ran it dry and stored it. I pulled it out a couple of weeks ago and got it to fire and idle, but it would die when it was given a substantial amount of throttle. Not having any wood here to tune it in I did not do any adjustment to the carb and sold it as is with a full disclosure of the issue. I didn't really make any money on it, but it is now in the hands of someone who will use it and it funded almost all of the cost of my new Echo 610 EVL.

From what I could find the green vent won't work on this saw. I went looking for a cheap tank on Ebay and couldn't find one...... If you have leads on a $25 dollar tank with a vent in it let me know. I already have brand new AV mounts on this tank that could be removed.

MS290 is a great general purpose saw.......and I'm betting a simple carb tear-down-build will solve the throttle issues. While you have it apart check the fuel and impulse lines, as well as the carb boot. I've seen saws where carb boot had a tear and saw wouldn't run right under throttle due to the leak.......

I believe you on the 372XP tank but I have looked high and low for a 272 tank and have not been able to find one. I keep watching for a 272 parts saw but haven't seen one of them either. If anyone notices one let me know. Also if anyone has an idea what epoxy would hold up to fuel I would appreciate the input.

I'm not positive, but explore the possibility that the 61, 268 have the same tank

Tried adjusting the carb setting and it didn't do a thing but I did notice something. When it would start and run but bog out I'm seeing fuel on the outside of the fuel line. I'm thinking there is a crack in the fuel line. Gotta get it tore apart tomorrow hopefully. Should I start a new thread with MS290 in the title so if others are searching later on it pops up? If so maybe One of the mods can just change the thread title to MS290 project or something like that.

Yep thats exactly how my 390 was when it went bad, the fuel line that is. I chased a carb for awhile and rebuilt it before I realized like you that there was girl outside my saw. Which filled me off it was bad.
