Let me get this straight. They are taking "pre orders" for the 2015-2016 heating season, but no construction has begun on this alleged super duper new plant. In fact, there is a notice of public hearing posted on the property.....so, what happens if people pay for pellets and the entire project is shot down? Zoning, environmental restrictions etc? They were kind enough to say that they have access to a supply of Maine pellets in case their new super duper plant is not up and running in time to manufacture for the 2015-2016 heating season. Yey! How about this: when your plant is fully constructed and is cranking out pellets that get good reviews, then put out an ad. To do so before construction has even begun has SCAM written all over it. They are in effect asking people to finance the construction of their plant, and pellet users are not lenders.
In all fairness, The address could be the office. We have seen a few mills that have a different mailing address than where the mill is located. Minuteman and Thermaglo are 2 recent additions to the mill list yet neither have an actual mill on their listed address. Minuteman's 25 maple ave . Upton Ma. address looks to be a residential area. The baggin plant is a few blocks away. Thermaglo mills are states away from the office address which is located in Ct. edit: On another note, I would not do a prebuy with any dealer, Let alone a start up. Strictly cash and carry. About all I'd do is what TSC asked for last season. 25% deposit up front just to show your commited, But 100% down ain't gonna happen! Call me when ya got pellets and I'll be down with cash to get em!!
Any idea what the public hearing was for? When I spoke to them, they stated they were in the process of obtaining the necessary permits and was working on the mill flooring.
No I do not. Did you speak to the actual owners? How confident were they that they would be up and running?
I did speak with the owner, Albert. Has big plans for the mill, a show room of pellet stoves, power from the refurbished dam. Appears to be in its early start up. Will be getting product in over the next few months, example Maine hardwood. And I think he said nations from down south, but will be hardwood. I did pre order, and have been nervous about it, seeing I couldn't find anything online about them. I did call the smart shopper today, where his ad is, and spoke to them. He has been around for awhile and has done business with smart shopper before. Appears he's trying to make a go at it and at a larger scale. They think he ran the place before selling pellets. But still nervous. My wife says you gotta trust people. The woman there when I visited, he says was his daughter. I explained hesitation cause there's no product, no mill, nothing. She offered and actually showed me all there clients under their old business I believe it was called national pellet, plus they had a stack of papers of people that called them. This surprised me when he pulled out a piece of paper from my call I had with him the day before, it was a large stack too. So he may be a talker, or he may be doing something that will be terrific for the area, only time will tell. If I hear or see more I will post, and hope others will also.
You are a better person than me, I hope it works out. I've seen enough scams that I'd be really hesitant to fork over that kind of dough on what is so far, nothing.
Took a spin by this place on my way home on Friday and this banner was out front. They were closed, but there were a couple signs hung in the window listing business name, hours, and phone number. I called over the weekend and was told order now and pellets are $205/ton. Wait until the fall and they will be $275 - $285. Still not sure if the pellets sold this fall will be produced here or brought in. Maine Woods and Nation's Choice were mentioned as the pellets that would be brought in if needed. Also specifically mentioned 100% hardwood, and definitely no softwoods or blends.
just mail me $1050, in cash, $100 bills for 5 tons. I will deliver them as soon as I buy a mill and figure out how to use it. Oh and if I can get the raw materials, there are only palm trees on the island and they do not make good, oops great pellets.. I will deliver any where in the continental US, free, may take a while as it will be by boat. Do not worry, you know I am one of your internet friends. mail payments to Enfield Green Fredericksted, USVI 00840. fine print; sucker
Maine Woods doesn't make a pellet that is 100% hardwood. They make a 65-35 blend and occasionally do a small softwood run.
Don't think we'll see them anymore. Been meaning to send Scot a PM and ask, But from our last chat. He was thinkin "not". Lots of added downtime and mill change over to do them. With the high demand he wasn't sure he could afford the lost time. Prolly better off to just keep banging out the blend(bread and butter).
