Thanks bro! We are going to grow smaller watermelons next year and probably add peas and expand the lettuce big time!
Ok @savemoney your gonna love this bro! We have had this can since we moved in here years ago... It's been a scrap metal collector, kindling bucket, rain barrel, trash can and more over the years. I just washed it out and what ya know we now have a compost bin! Ya I am a little proud of that one....
Don't forget to roll that can from tim to time. It mixes the compost and speeds up the process. Just keep adding to it.
Wow!!! what a difference in the plants. Everything looks so good. thanks for posting the follow up pics. You are getting quite a lot out of that small area. (there is no green envy smiley!) Composting is really the way to go to keep building up that soil.
you can help this by taking gallon milk jugs, spray paint them black and fill with water. set them around in the greenhouse. keep black ground cover exposed in the walking space. They catch heat and give it back at night. Use as many jugs as you can fit in the spaces. Good show with the tomatoes. you should be pleased with your efforts.
Backwoods Savage I am going to be tomato picking tomorrow. Will you be out this way at all? I'd be happy to save some for you!
Pete that green house is fantastic! I would love to have that here! Thinking it is getting pretty cold at night there right now..
ray its been below freezing a couple of times and we're definitely getting frost now it's actually snowing today. I can draw up what I did to build it for you?? Its mainly pallet lumber and cattle pannels. It didnt cost much at all!
Pete I appreciate the offer but don't add any more work to what you have already.. Someday if you have a chance you could post that info here as many here have shown interest.. Great way to recycle buddy!
Pete, below zero or below freezing? You have done well extending the growing season by having good control of your greenhouse. We you consider this is your first yesr, it is especially impressive. We got our first killing frost this morning. Oct. 31st. First time ever for this late into the season. And to think I didn't have a garden. 3 years ago, we had nearly a foot of snow a week before Halloween. That was also a first for me.
Larry, pretty sure he meant below freezing. We haven't seen below about 25 or so, and we're a couple hours or more farther north. Due for a little chillier than that the next couple nights.
Well I am itching for spring now… Got big BIG plans for the greenhouse this year. We are going to move it back about 10' and set it up on a block foundation. Then we are going to add a bunch of cattle panels over the whole thing to cover all the outside beds. That will allow us to add bird netting over the beds so they will stay out of my strawberries and beans!!!! We are also adding a small potting shed off the back of the greenhouse just big enough to hold the riding mower and a folding potting table. It too will be built out of pallets. Under the bird netting section we will have a new water line run out to the greenhouse with a potting sink hooked up for washing out pots or just to have a sink in the yard. Im so excited!
Wow, those are big BIG plans Pete. Will you insulate the outside of the block? Anxiously awaiting pics of Pallet Pete's precious plant production premises.
I'm going to love following that build. Hope you paint any inside side surfaces white. White reflects the most light. I've seen the cattle wire use. It is excellent. For groins most any vines. Cukes, melons, squash beans, berries and tomatoes. Hope you can get it for a reasonable price. Sounds like you have our work cut out.
