Here is what we used doubled up over itself. It is a 12' roof so this was perfect to overlap and creat a 12 mil roof. I don't know how well it will hold up only time will tell but it is moister barrier outdoor plastic sooo... A cheap version of my greenhouse would make a heck of a solar kiln! It gets hot really hot in there if I close the window and door. https://shop.familyfarmandhome.com/products/clear-poly-6-mil-20-x25--13290.html
Thats cheaper than the 6 mil stuff I am looking at in the Lowes store. Im figuring 6 mil to be pretty thick and ought to hold up for a good while.
That is one very impressive greenhouse. I really like the colors. The white on the inside is the best color you could have used because of the amount of light that is bent and reflected back in. You will need at least 8 to 10 hrs of direct sunlight to get things like cukes and tomatoes. Lesser amounts for greens. Nice job.
Thanks! I left venting above the front door and the plastic is offset a little by the front and back walls so it will ALWAYS breath even when the front door might be shut. Now I need to figure out how to make screens for those areas and plugs for the colder months...
Thanks Ray the wife at first thought it was a dumb idea to do it this way then she saw it and is now taking pics and sending them to everybody she can.
Not all plastic is equal. Some block essential light rays. There is a special plastic developed for greenhouses. Not only dies it perform better in letting all the good parts of light, it also last longer. Last up to 4 years. You have to consider that when you look at cost. https://www.farmtek.com/farm/suppli...-ft_greenhouse_plastic_covering;pg108654.html
I did consider that and read a lot of reviews on it too. This plastic has very good reviews for greenhouses on a bunch of forums however I am somewhat skeptical so we will see. This is really win win because if it doesn't work then I'll have more for the-woodpiles which is always needed.
I got the posts and rails painted today and the beds all in along with a thick layer of weed cloth. Looks like next weekend we will be buying the dirt and plants... A little behind schedule but o well we still have plenty of time.
Thanks Ray! The rest is mostly cosmetic she's ready for plants next weekend.. I can't weight! We are gonna attach rebar to the center support beam in order to hang baskets as well but the rebar will stagger them nicely keeping a good center to walk down.
Hope you have a composting pile or two started. Throw all your organic waste in. Keep it turned now and then and you will have some of the richest black gold you can get to add to those raised beds. There is almost no such thing as too mush compost. You will know it is good when you find it full of earth worms. I am anxious to see some of your first crops.
I really like your greenhouse. I will make sure Campinspecter sees this. For my retirement project!!! When you post pics in July, it will really look quite something.
