After a couple year hiatus, I returned to my honey hole today. Couple weeks ago, bike shop boss Tony told me he had the leaner over his garage taken down and he saved the wood for me. To my surprise, they took down several more that were in the area that could threaten his garage. 2 small /medium black birch, couple medium chestnut oaks and the biggest was a black oak. Got one truckload today. Will try and take a vacation day Wednesday to get the rest. How I found it^^. Probably cut the stumps lower. After some limbing. Swapped in a fresh chain and topped off the tanks. This biggest tree I bucked 40 rounds at 16” and still have some top left to saw on. Tony got out the bobcat to help me load and my truck left with some fresh battle scars. He slid into the taillights/bed. Ordered me new ones. It’s just a firewood truck so no worries here. Got a decent load. One and done. Didn’t have my air compressor to air up the bags. She was saggin’ a bit. Rounds were just big enough to lift so I didn’t 1/2 any,, yet.
Oh Yeah! Some nice Goldilocks wood there. Primo btu's to boot. Tough collateral damage there. My poor PU has been there, done that numerous times.
Aw man....got both sides! I used to do 'Froading. Left my truck parked for a hairy trail and rode with another guy. He took damage on passenger going in, and damage on drivers side going out....same rock. lol That was the trip that taught me that the real off roaders tow their rigs to the trails.
That's some nice loads of wood. That's bad about the taillights...at least the tailgate doesn't resemble another famous tailgate......
Respect in a true FHC fashion that you took a vacation day to revisit the honey hole when opportunity knocked. Nice!
Were wood hoarders...its a special kind of crazy! You might be a wood hoarder if.... ...you take a vacation day to cut wood!
Thinking the only regret you have Jason is not being able to use a big saw. I know how you love cutting monster size logs.
The older I get the more I grab the lightest saw possible. Knowing the typical size at this location, I took my ported 57cc w/ a 20” bah. I got all those trees bucked up in a bit less than 2 tanks of mix. If I break out the big gun, I really feel it for a day or so. That sucker isn’t light.
Aforementioned vacation day.. to hoard firewood. Got there and Tony had already gathered me a load with the Bobcat.
