I split some smaller white oak rounds this summer and they are already reading below 20%

Is that reading on a fresh split face at 40 degs or above? Frozen or very cold wood will not register correctly.

MM are usually calibrated for "Douglas Fir at 70 degrees Fahrenheit",
Some come with temperature and species correction charts.
    ±3% accuracy .

White oak is measuring 18-21% depending on where I test it. As that's what I have, it's going into the stove.

Heck...I'm not living the properly seasoned lifestyle. I can't judge the authors as I'm not always burning correctly.

I've been known to burn some half-seasoned firewood myself. Not ashamed either. Hell, we all know how easy it is to burn dry wood. As they say ... "Calm seas never made a good sailor."

I'm wanting to get there. I'm just not yet. At least with a meter, I can know where I'm at.

It takes time, I am burning less than ideal wood again this year, but I've already go next years wood and about half the wood for the year after. And they will be fully seasoned when I burn them.
