    Cheers everyone!

I primarily use my phone for browsing the interwebs. I have tried checking woodstocks website with it. Their site just isnt mobile friendly but can be figured out.

I MUCH prefer web surfing on my laptop...phone is just cumbersome in comparison IMO.

My problem is I dont like being in one spot (relatively speaking since you can carry a laptop around). I'll check stuff out while I'm working on other stuff.

Yeah I get on the phone for web throughout the day, but save my more serious surfing for the evening when I can chill in the recliner.

Just a thought. If your only option is shipping in from overseas, check out Canadian prices and shipping. The tariff rates might be different than shipping from USA.

    Update

I’m in contact with a sales rep from Woodstock and he’s been really helpful. He has sent stoves to Japan before so looks promising. Will keep the thread updated about this.

I’ve been in touch by email with their sales rep. It’s looking promising. Probably going to get the large soapstone one. But I really like the steel one with the copper looking detail as well.

    Cheers

Oh that’s a cool idea. We’d need a whole clubhouse, bunks, kitchen, wood storage. Whole 9 yards. Doesn’t even sound like half bad a plan.

Yeah I got the quote yesterday and it was very reasonable and the rep was very good to deal with. The rep stated there was a “provincial tax” based on weight in his experience with Japan . He sent one 2 years ago and both he and the buyer was unaware of this local tax at the time. He said it was around another $1500 on top.

I have my wife looking into it to see what is the deal with this tax. It would be a nightmare if I paid for the stove and shipping and then find I have to pay even more than this to get it off the docks! I’ll call him back when I have more info to go ahead or not. Another pressing thing is that it’s starting to get cool now so I’m in a bind. I really should have sorted this when I bought the place in July but I had so much to do to get the place liveable as it was an abandoned house.

    I forgot to add.

Shipping was $1700 which is quite reasonable. Provincial Tax 2 years ago was $1500 from his memory. So this would mean about $3200 for delivery to me which for the quality could justify it. The tax potentially could be even higher now. Also I have a time factor creeping up on me which is my fault. This is my unlucky situation that will probably have me overpaying for a crappy local stove.

Would make me want to run a barrel stove until my "real stove" showed up...

I hope this works out for you Japanman. Not only is it cool that we have a member in Japan, it would be even cooler to know that Woodstock was willing to ship a stove to you at a reasonable rate. Their stock keeps going up in my opinion. If all American companies operated this way I feel we could once again take pride in our manufacturing.

I agree with brenndatomu. I would find something super cheap and simple if you need heat quick until a Woodstock stove could make it's way across the Pacific.

No matter what you decide keep us posted. This is a very interesting thread.
